Welcome to the forum, and sorry you had to join the UC club!
It's natural to be worried, but I don't think you should panic yet. You've only just started the pred, and while it does take effect instantly, for some people it takes a couple of days before they're properly well again. And especially because your symptoms were pretty bad prior to starting, so these things take time to calm down. Don't worry, you're not going to start deteriorating as soon as you taper; for most people that happens at 20mg or lower. It's not easy for us to tell you what 'should' be happening regarding the blood and urgency, because every person reacts to these medicines differently. Use the search bar at the top of the page to find other people's stories. The important thing is that pred is helping you a lot, and for now that's brilliant.
I also advise you not to get too obsessed getting back to the state you were in pre-diagnosis - that's going to take time, and for some people it's hard to achieve. This is a life-long disease, but remission is possible.
The important thing to remember is that prednisolone isn't a maintenance drug. It's going to help you while you're on it, but the effects won't last forever. Hopefully it'll give you time for the Asacol to kick in. And you should also be prepared for the fact that pred messes with your emotions big time. It's great that you're feeling happy now, but it can also swing the other way.
Good luck with it, and try not to agonise over it too much yet, that will only make it worse. Hope you feel better soon!
