Why didn't we think of this for IBD! I think it's wonderful that they have already raised $22.9 million with this viral charity! The Crohns & Colitis Foundation needs to think of something for us IBDers.

What do you all think of CCFA (american charity) and other foundations around the world for Chrons & Colitis? Personaly, I've participated in some events and raised money for CCFA, however I think we could make more improvments. I'd be curious to see how other countries IBD charietys are.

I was thinking about some sort of viral charity campaign for UC or something. But it would be more like "take a bunch of laxatives and run to the toilet for UC/CD!" or something, haha.

I'm glad that something like this was actually done for a good cause.

Hmmm... how about a sprint to the nearest toilet? Let's see. You register for the challenge. At some random time in the next 24 hours, you get a text or a bleep or something on your phone and WHEREVER you are, you must drop everything and race to wherever the nearest toilet is. For example, If in a store, you have to run to the nearest public restroom or else try to convince the store clerk to let you use the staff toilet. Great way to see how daily life is for us when we are flaring.

I hate speaking my mind about these things, but here goes:

I remain skeptical that donations (even in the millions) would land us a "cure" for ALS. If anything, I think more money would be vested in pharmaceuticals to manage the symptoms.

I think the same would apply to organizations like the CCFA, though I remain open to what they have to offer us in the future. I remain optimistic that they have good intentions in their hearts.

I would like to see the money go to the actual victims in this case -- not for a cure, but to help them deal with life. I certainly could have used some money to buy supplies, foods, etc during my hard times with the disease.

I would never do this challenge personally, because I am not sure the money would actually go to helping the actual ALS victims.

As far as ALS is concerned, Tuesdays with Morrie was a movie that really humbled me when I was young. I am very fortunate to not have such a debilitating condition.

Colitis challenge: Take a sh#& load of ex-lax, go out to your favorite restaurant with your husband/wife and see how long you can hold it, while trying to have a romantic dinner for two !


@Guardian7- I could not agree more with you. Though funding tends to go to quick fixes (treatments) I guess it's hard to find a middle ground in any disease on where the money should go. Because people are suffering and need treatments, especially those with IBD in which one treatment does not work for all, therefore we need lots of options.

Finding a cure, is so timely, and most with any disease are unlikely to see a cure in their time, but will more benefit from pharmaceuticals. If only we could do both with the same amount of impact.

"Clean a toilet for IBD." A lot of people have probably never done this before. Those who have would likely prefer to make a donation.

Lol to the suggestions. How about stick a rectal med in your butt or donate money. Guaranteed tons of money would be raised... Easier to dump ice water on your head than that.

Seriously though...it is great that ALS has received a lot of money and attention. What a horrid disease.

The ice bucket challenge became an instant social media phenomenon. Now whether or not some people just poured ice water on their heads and didn't donate it still brought attention and awareness to the disease. A lot of people prior to this didn't even know what ALS was and had to google it. Those people are now know what it is.

I would LOVE to see something like this go viral for Crohn's disease & Ulcerative colitis. Not only would money be raised, but people will be introduced and educated about our condition. I spend so much time explaining to friends and family about what Ulcerative colitis is and its effects on our body. Sometimes I feel like it's easier to say I have an "upset" stomach and just go about my day.

The hard part is thinking of something that can go viral and everyone can do. crapting in a bucket or taking laxatives is not a feasible option!! However it would be hilarious! tongue

I feel like our disease would be easy to go viral, do to its "embarrassing" nature. We or CCFA could put something brilliant together. It would just take a good team of people with a great sense of humor.

Here in America we have Humira commercials that really represent the daily struggles with IBD. Their advertising zeros in on the discomfort of the diseases being in public, having to always look for a restroom. AbbVie Inc has really promoted Humira, it's now one if not the top selling drugs in the world. With this promotion brings more awareness to IBD. I'll take it!

I feel like IBD is so much more advertised then years ago. And that's great for us who have it.

How about "the bathroom challenge" they'll have to use a discusting Portable toilet or iffy roadside bathroom or else have to donate to the ulcerative colitis/crohn's foundation. I used to be choosy preuc and never use an iffy bathroom. However now anywhere but my pants is my mantra lol.

Think it should be kept fairly easy and just dump a bucket of chocolate milk over our heads. At first I thought about doing chocolate pudding but that might not go over too well. ;)

The Crohn's vaccine people are doing a Ketchup on Crohn's challenge which is reminiscent of the ice bucket challenge. They only need a total of 380,000 pounds (based in UK) to get enough money to test it on humans. If they went viral, that would be great for them, but honestly pouring ketchup on oneself isn't really appealing. The Ice Bucket Challenge is fun and clean up is easy. Dumping ketchup on your hair is just kinda gross and awkward. But I still donated to them.

I made a video of my colonoscopy prep last week! We called the it the "Lax Challenge". I didn't post it on social media but my husband and I thought my family would get a kick out of it. I only filmed the beginning though because then I felt crappy and wasn't in the mood to film any more.

I did see someone on Facebook try to start a CCFA Dare challenge. The people you nominate are supposed to dare you to do something embarrassing and then nominate others to do the same.

Wedgie challenge? Get some granny panties, a bully, and go to town? Honestly though, I don't think "our" disease will ever be popular enough. Everyone usually thinks it's just some crapting disease.
