I am so sad about
Joan Rivers. I really hope she gets better. Has anyone else been following this? (not that there is much to follow, she's in a medically induced coma)

You know, I have to say that I have hated Joan Rivers for my entire life but now I feel so bad for her and her daughter. I hope it works out for them. So far it doesn't look good. I hate to see this kind of thing happen to anyone. Had a somewhat similar situation happen to my stepson when he was 19. He didn't make it. He had muscular dystrophy. My mom also died during an operation, although that wasn't totally unexpected, even though it through me into shock.

It seems unlikely she will make it. Very sad. I like her, she's cool!

It's sad news...she's definitely in a serious state.
Hope she gets through this...she has the best caring for her.

Oh, I know, it's just awful about
Joan! I sure hope she pulls through. What a spunky lady.

I think it is awful too. You know you can make fun of her and all the plastic surgery she has had and many do. She doesn't care, in fact she jokes about
it herself. She is a gutsy lady who tells it like it is and that is something I admire. No sugar coating. Who has time for that? I hope she can recover from it.

She seemed like one of those people that makes fun of a lot of people, but is actually sweet on the inside.
After having all these health issues, I feel bad for anyone who has to go through things like that. Hope things work out.

I feel bad for her too..
I have a feeling that she might just pull through, she has such a strong spirit that it really wouldn't surprise me at all...
Does anyone know what she was actually in hospital having done?...

It says here vocal cord surgery. I thought I had read earlier it was some kind of throat surgery. Definitely unexpected and I really hope she pulls through. It's scary because you don't know what is going to happen if they bring her out of the coma :(

From what I heard on FM news, she was having procedure done on throat at doctor's office when she went into cardiac arrest. Then she was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital because it was close by. Considering her age it might have been risky to opt for out-patient surgery. Maybe she was not getting enough oxygen during the procedure and it affected her heart. I know that it's an issue now with c-scopes as one gets older; the major medical centers require EKG right before sedation & attach oxygen mask prior to scope as a precaution. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
