As I have posted before, having had a parent with MS and having met a few other people with IBD and a first degree relative with MS, I've always wondered about
links, recent mentions of the bacteria b fragilis in conjuction with the diseases also seems relevant. This descript
ion of some new research was interesting to me, although the "leak" seems to be in small intestine rather than colon - posting in case anyone else interested.
medicalxpress.com/news/2014-09-intestinal-barrier-multiple-sclerosis.html ""To our surprise, we saw structural changes in the mucous membrane of the small intestine and an increase in inflammatory T-cells, known as Th1 and Th17. At the same time, we saw a reduction in immunosuppressive cells, known as regulatory T-cells. These changes are often linked to inflammatory bowel diseases, and biologically active molecules produced by Th1 and Th17 are believed to be behind this damage to the intestines."
