Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation within the large intestine, and ulcers on the surface which can bleed and cause blood in the bowl, tp when you wipe, and on stool. That is based on the disease itself and flareups of uc. Food (spicy things, and diets high in fiber) can aggravate uc symptoms.
Yes, colonoscopy is often done when the patient has signs of blood. I was given a scope when bleeding, for my initial diagnosis. I was sedated and did not feel a thing.
