Does this ever get easier?

Bit of a downer post!
I've been diagnosed with some form of colitis, my consultant thinks it may be crohns colitis.
Because my symptoms have improved abit he's said to not go on meds till they've worked out what I have. (No blood now, going to loo about twice a day rather than 10)
However I still get very hot and achy, also get groin pain, right sided and rectal pain, urgency, mucus etc.
Ever since this problems started Ive been so aware of every pain anywhere in my body, I notice it straightaway, and worry!
Does this ever calm down!

For 4 months. Not long I know but feels like it!
I had a baby boy 5 months ago and this is really ruining such a special time.

Did you have a colonoscopy? When are they going to work out what you have? If that is immediately then it might be a good idea to wait for a definitive diagnosis so that they can start you out on the right medicine for what you have. If it's not going to be immediately, then I think it is a mistake to not go on meds right away.

I had a colonoscopy but they couldn't complete it unfortunately, had a loop they couldn't get past so only made it to distal transverse colon.
Had ulcers which they took biopsies of and the results said colitis.
I'm now waiting for my consultant to arrange either an MRI or a colonoscopy under general anaesthetic.
He said to give him 2 weeks, been waiting so long for answers now dragging on.

I will give him a call tomorrow and discuss it, I'm off maternity leave in 6 weeks and I'm a post woman out on deliveries so don't know how it's going to work without meds!

Oh and is it normal for the blood to stop, d and urgency to get alot better but the bodyaches and mucus to remain?!
I have pains in my pelvis that have started when I was flaring badly, I had bad pelvic pain when I was pregnant dont know if this has caused it to hurt again or what!

without meds, it does seem a bit odd that your symptoms would improve w/o meds - I can understand your docs wanting to make sure of what they are dealing with before they prescribe drugs - but .... 5asa's, both oral and rectal are pretty benign, so i myself personally would have no issue starting on them while waiting for a dx - your docs may have other ideas tho -

I've cut milk out cause think that made it worse, so that might be reason for some of the improvement.
Dunno how I've stopped bleeding, just lucky I guess!
Did yours just start over a short period of time?
I was fine one day then after a couple of weeks of loose stools it all kicked off!
Never had any tummy trouble before either!

If you do have IBD - either UC or Crohn's, it's only going to get worse without treatment. Since essentially the same medications are used for both conditions, there seems to be no reason for delay in treating you.

Hi, Most people with U.C take a good probotic, so that's worth looking at I think. Also keeping a food diary, if only for a month is helpful too, as sometimes there are certain foods that can trigger a BM.

If you click on the search button at the top of the page, you can type in key words for information on pretty much anything colitis related, its very handy, as is the resources section at the top of the page too.

I do take a probiotic but its only 3 billion so comparing it to yours I'm guessing its no good! I need to learn all this!!
Also I will start a food diary and see if I notice any triggers.

Without a definitive diagnosis of IBD (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's, Crohn's colitis) you may have IBS which is not treated with the same meds. I don't think your doctors are wrong to wait and see what you have if you are not in a severe situation.

Your biopsies will tell whether you have IBD but sometimes can be non-specific. A diagnosis of colitis is non-specific in my opinion (and obviously your docs).

We will all hope you do not have IBD or IBS and that this is a temporary situation.

That's what I do now but was hoping there was a way to cut down on the number of results to this forum only. There actually may be a way to do it using a specific google search method which only searches one particular website but I forgot how to do it and I don't know if that would even work for searching just one forum only off of a website which has multiple forums.

I'm pretty sure I had my first flare right after having my first child. I came out of it without meds. One day I had a perfect s curve and thought all of what had transpired ahead of that must have been my body's reaction to childbirth. It happened again when I had my second child. I chalked my bowel troubles up to pregnancy. 6 years later, I was in the ER because of horrible joint/pelvic/back pain and not being able to have a bowel movement (with every intervention imaginable) for 3 weeks. My diagnosis was pancolitis at that point. The inflammation caused my left descending colon to swell to the point I couldn't go to the bathroom. I was on flagyl & cipro for 3 weeks to get things moving again and then began UC specific drug therapies. I'm glad you are still going to get everything checked out even though you seem to be improving without meds. I often wonder if I could have prevented my UC from progressing to pancolitis if I'd received treatment sooner.
