My doctor encouraged my husband and I to grow our family sooner than later because I need to have my colon removed sooner than later. We found out we are having a baby girl and I am second guessing the name we had picked for her. We were going to name her Leah Annette but I am not fully sold. We want something no more than two syllables and a name that can't be shortened. Our son's name is Griffin, which we both loved. I thought I would ask my fellow colitis sufferers for their favorite girl names. This will most likely be our last child since my surgery is next on the agenda. I want something that is pretty. Any ideas?

My granddaughter's name is Milea...I've always liked the name chantal too.

I think Leah is a beautiful name. I also like Zora, Kiah, Kaila...

Just a question... are you saying surgery means you can't have any more kids...?

Our daughter is Lara Victoria. If we would have had another she would have been Bree Elizabeth. Named after no one!! Just because we liked the names.

We had criteria when choosing our names too: couldn't sart with a "J" (same as our last name), couldn't be shortened, had to be either a boy or girls name (no unisex names).

Have you looked at your and your husbands family tree going back some generations, first and last names?
BTW I knew a "Griff" so Griffin can be shortened if a pal really wants to do that.

Leah was my top choice for a girl name, but my husband doesn't care for it. Clearly, he's a goof. So we have a Claire Nicole instead. Other girl names on our list were Laura, Lauren, and Sarah.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming.

If I have the surgery it could compromise our chances of having another. Also, my first one was fairly complicated, and because of that, I am even higher risk this time. It would take some courage to try for a third if my husband and I feel ready for even another.

Love Leah, but Annette doesn't flow with saying it.
A name that doesn't have the same beginning sound as the ending of the name before it would be much better.
You could add a J to make it Janette...

Leah is a delicate name, and one with either strength to say it or again delicate without a break between the two. I love the names Wren, Shelby, Kinsey, Kenna, Nicole, Isobel.

The idea to go back in the family history of names, or choose one that's strong in your ethnic background or a last name of one side or the other, or your husband's name in femine form, etc.

Let us know whatever it is you choose that feels right for you.

The Annette is after an Aunt Ann. We don't want the middle name to just be Ann to mistake her name for Leann. We like the name Annette alone, but don't want her to be called Ann.

Not sure what the feminine form of husband name is...Ned. My husband also comes from a large family and it is hard to pick a family name that hasn't been used already. His late father's name is Derk, also a hard one to put in feminine form.

We will keep looking. Thanks for all the advice.

I love the name Amelia. Mia for short. (I have two boys and no more so no girl names for me!) If I had a girl she probably would have been a Nicole. I had my boys thank goodness before my UC dx. We wanted a third and then I got hit with the UC. I was sick for 5 years then had J pouch surgery. By the time I was all healed up from that I was 42. Didn't want to risk it. I feel blessed with my two boys! Good luck with everything!

PS- I like the name you picked. Leah is a pretty name. :)

I'm fond of the name Sherry smilewinkgrin

But my daughters name is Katelynn May (May is reference in honor of my mother who passed away from CD - that was her middle name).

My daughters friend is having a baby at the end of the month and she's naming her Isabella Faith - I just love that name.

What about Leanne (Lianne) (Lee-Ann)? and find another middle name.

Can't think of anything for Ned or Derk ;-)

My wife and I are in the same boat. Probably having a girl (yet to confirm, waiting for the 20 week ultrasound). We really like the name Layla, but are having a tough choice between that and Winnie :)

My sister's name is Leah, and I think it's a good fit. She has an outgoing personality in many situations and her name doesn't come across as conflicting with who she is. I believe the name also fits well with a quieter introverted type too. So, I'd say Leah goes well either way.

Other good girl names: Chloey, Ava, Amy, Katie ...

My wife and I are planning on not having children, but I always had these names in mind: for a boy I was thinking Cameron, and for a girl Savannah. They just felt good to me.

We named our daughter Julia Rose after my grandmother. If we have another girl we like the name Lavinia Corine.

Don't be sorry. Keep in mind that my child will be "mixed". My wife is chinese so Winnie is a popular "western" kind of name for an asian kid, or in my case half asian. I love Layla too but we are really looking to go with something a little more unique here in North America.

I can't help apologizing especially when I'm telling someone I don't like what they like, makes me feel bad...I had a friend named Winnie (her name was actually Winnifred and sometimes her parents even called her Minnie or Winnie, at school we called her Winnie...She was Polish and she was a sweetheart. I really love the name Layla though, to me it sounds unique because I've never known a Layla.

Have a relative named Leah Amy. Have friend named Anna, whose daughter is Andrea & everyone calls her that, no nicknames. What about Lisa Annette? IMO, girls' 1st names ending in "a" are the best, except for Bertha (ugh)! / Old Hat (34 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
