It helped to get me into the therapeutic range when I was having trouble with 6mp. I hope it works well for you. I know it sucks to be let down and have to wait a few days to start but at least it's only a few days. I am in the same boat, I used to be anti drugs and now I just want to get into remission, whatever it takes... I hope you're better quickly on both fronts.

My GI said that the allo is a much safer drug than aza as it's not toxic. So feel better that I will be only taking 50mg per day of aza as opposed to 125mg. But it said regular blood tests once a week for a month and then if all is well can increase to every three months. I worry because he said they need to be weary of bone marrow suppression but that's how it was when I was just on aza too and that's much more toxic at that dose.

But because of the abx I am on for my cold I am starting to flare worse and now have blood in my stools :( want to get over this stupid cold so I can get a control over the colitis. In the plus side, my GI said that I should feel the effects of the allo within a couple of days because the aza is already in my system.

I didn't. It was a long struggle for me to get into remission. I was up and down and my blood work was really weak... I can't even say how it ended up working out for me, but somehow, I got into remission.

Thanks for the link. I've read it. I suppose the difference with me will be that I will have blood monitoring every week for 6 weeks to check for bone marrow suppression and a severe drop in WBC. Obviously if severe, I will discontinue the allopurinol. The lady who died in the article went six weeks without any blood monitoring and so any adverse reaction would have been picked up straight away and it could have saved her life :(

@ Happychick - Yes thats exactly what happened! I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the risk of taking them both so that they can be properly monitored : )
