Can you lose your eyesight from uc? My eyes have gotten significantly worse since I've been diagnosed with uc

Go to an ophthalmologist. I get my checked annually by one. I don't know that you can lose your eyesight but you can get inflammation in your eyes when you have UC.

Unfortunately, the eyes are sometimes affected. Coworker has uveitis. My eyes have been driving me crazy the past few weeks...I think it's the prednisone.

Better to get eyes checked. I check once in 2 years.

That said, my eyesight has gotten worse during this year. Not too sure how much age factored in.

my eyes have gotten worse over the years. no cataracts but vision wise my prescription is worse. i also have TONS of floaters that drive me insane. it's hard focusing on things, too, sometimes.

I agree with seeing an eye doctor and getting a test. Vision changes over time and you might need glasses. If you have worries then get it checked out.

Longterm prednisone usage can cause glaucoma. Glaucoma is a screening done with any eye exam at an optometrist.

Uveitis (inflammation of the eye) is painful, from what I hear, you'd know for sure if you had it. It is another immune disorder. My optometrist told me about during my last visit. Odds are I won't get it, but good to know what it is.

oh great, now I have to worry about glaucoma too?
I thought it would be a waste of time going to the eye doctor until I was off the prednisone because seems to be a downward slide anyway. If I got a Rx for glasses, it's bound to change before the next exam.

But if glaucoma is in the picture, I better start checking into it now.

Its definitely worth having a check up yearly as sometimes people with UC are prone to uveitis I'm having trouble with my eyes too, they are very itchy sometimes, especially first thing in the morning.

I doubt you will lose your eyesight if you get check ups. A lot of insurance plans cover the check up. Please go get looked at, it will set your mind at ease.

UC is an autoimmune disorder that causes your own immune system to attack your,body. For us, it's our colon. However,autoimmune disorders can cause an inflammatory response anywhere in your body, especially your eyes.

I personally have been having a terrible time with my eyes lately. My optomitist found a pus pocket in my eye and has related the inflammation to my UC. I had to get a steroid injection in my eye and am also on steroid drops. Prior to the drops I had severe redness, pain, a d sensitivity to light. And now, my eyesight is getting worse as if it wasn't already terrible.

There was the same topic raised on the Polish uc forum some time ago and i read some latest medical articles according to which there's absolutely no connection between uc and eye problems, of course medical theories change over time, but i think you really have no reasons to worry that you'll get blind or whatever like that, think that so many people must wear strong contact lenses or glasses, they undergo different eye surgeries and they even don't know what uc is :)

It may be seasonal pollen in the air. My eyes were bothering me and I felt sure there was deterioration in eyesight but 2 weeks ago at annual eye appt turns out no change at all in eyesight. The doc said to use drops for relief (if I find that piece of paper I'll post it). But shortly afterwards no problems even without drops.

Many will not have eye troubles do to uc. Yeah, nobody should loose sleep over this, but the more you know the better off you are. The OP's issue might just be normal eye changes over time, only an optometrist can say for certain.

However, I feel it is important to stress 20% of patients with an auto immune disorder do acquire additional immune disorders over time. Inflammation of the eye is one example of the immune system attacking other parts of the body. Although uc doesn't make one more predisposed to get glaucoma, a common uc drug, prednisone, does when it is used longterm.
