What's the highest dose of Prednisone you've been on?

been so long I don't remember what my highest was - I guess that's a good thing

40mg, I was a light weight =)

100 IV
60 oral

Never more than 40mg for me. 40 really screws me up.

I was 80mg IV and Antibiotics for a week when I was first diagnosed, then dropped down to 40 mg. Since then 40mg has been my max. Weight wise I dropped to 92lbs when I was first diagnosed. I have never broken a 100 since, but have come close once or twice.

60 mg oral for 6 weeks. Tapering very slowly from there. Moon face is my least favorite side effect. I know there are worse long term ones, but I'm pretty vain and think the song is about me.

Seriously, it is just really disconcerting to look in the mirror and see someone who looks like me, but has a huge moon face.

I'm with you on the moon face, Colitis Girl! It's the worst side effect and impossible to hide.

haha thats not the worst side effect, its the least harmless, google prednisone side effects and you'd be surprised.

Highest dose (while losing a lot of weight i was ~53 KG Male 178cm at the tome) :

60mg oral + 3x Dexamethasone 8mg IV a day + Budesonide 2.3mg enema

oh also i took a Nandrolone decanoate 50mg IM once while being on the above cocktail, because i was losing muscle mass rapidly from steroids gotta take more steroids to fix it though... lol

i'll just mention my least harmless side effect : i didn't sleep for the entire period while on the 60mg oral ~2 weeks.

100 via iv in the hospital. 60 mg oral.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Good to know that others have taken 60 mg/day. I would never stay that high for more than a two or three days but I think it's better to start really high to jump start the healing.

During my one hospitalization, my idiot doctors kept me on only 40 mg via IV and, when I was released seven days later, my UC symptoms were unchanged (was released because I was no longer dehydrated and because of insurance). It was a complete waste of time that could've been spent getting better with a higher dose of Pred.


It was during that time I found this site and it's made a huge difference in how I manage my UC. It's given me the confidence to make treatment decisions and try things my doctor would never have suggested. So thank you everyone!

Contentprof-I'm comfortable playing around with my Pred dosage, going higher than the usual 40 mg and especially the tapering schedule. In my experience, most doctors are clueless about tapering - they suggest whatever they learned in med school.

I think 40 was the highest dose I have been on. However I think that any dosage is too much. I refused it for an extended period of time.

I would like to say that I will never take that poison again. However Uceries made my symptoms worse not better. And for that privilege I got to pay $$$$.

I am in the same boat.

As much as I hate Predinose and am terrified of the side effects it does work for me. Uceries on the other hand seemed to make my symptoms twice as worse.

The key to take aware from this conversation is to 1) speak up. You are your best and most effective advocate and 2) find what works best for you. Just because I love drug A and it works for me. Does not mean it will have the same results when you try it.
