So after planning to not be one of those people who disappeared when she felt better I did just that. Went into a nice denial period because I did and ate whatever the heck I wanted and felt fine.....missed a few lialda here and there and felt fine. Stupid yes. I realize that. A year later I'm still mad at having this.
Anyway suddenly at the same time if year as my first flare here I go with some symptoms. Not bad yet....a little blood, slight urgency but bit gave an accident urgency, fatigue and a little PMS style cramping. Nothing like the pain I was in last year. But man am I scared. Don't want to end up in the hospital or out of work again...recently got promoted! So looking for a GI today. Stupid to wait ibkniw.....but for some reason I was so sure I was fine and didn't want to even think about it so I kept putting it off. Heads up newbies...don't to into denial.

Soooo.....here I am seeking out fellow sufferers again

At least you are accepting it. You are only human and we all slip away when everything is going well. You start to feel normal again and just like everyone else and so you forget about having uc and start eating recklessly again.

Try and get seen asap and nip it in the bud with rectal meds first. I would also up your Lialda to the max dose. Where abouts is your uc? is it all the way through your colon or just confined to the left side/rectum? I'm asking because rectal meds may not work if it is through your entire colon.

My GI tells me to cut out lactose when flaring which is what I am doing. maybe something you could try but then again many do not believe it is linked to diet.

Yes I quit the lactose as of today and am watching my diet more carefully to try and put a halt to it. Not sure the max dose of lialda....will have to research... I've been on 2 a day.

I think last year it was all the way through...not sure ..I was a hot mess and my GI was a bit lax. Which is why I was looking for a new one! I would love if rectal meds would knock it out without pred...I'm still pulling out chin hair and fighting sugar cravings from that stuff!

Protocol here is to put Lialda up to 4 a day and use daily mesalazine enemas at first sign of new flare - maybe enough if you are lucky. Don't forget regular bloodwork for kidney function if on a lot of mesalazine.

I managed to knock out a flare last year with just rectal mesalazine meds. I am currently on 4.8mg asacol for a flare which is a whopping 6 tablets a day as well as the other cocktail of drugs I am on at present!

Don't beat yourself up wifeofmars, many that take their meds religiously and continue to pay close attention to their diet and all still end up getting flares again...it's the nature of the beast.
