If mesalamine enemas work/ why doesn't oral mesalamine?

I wonder if anyone can relate to this. Mes. enemas have always done a pretty good job of keeping my lower inflammation in check. My I still have inflammation in the descending colon that the enemas presumably don't reach. I've received no benefit from Asacol or Colozol. I'm wondering why, if they're the same med...

So you're meaning that the enemas totally clear up your rectum, sigmoid but the entire descending colon is still inflamed?
could you clarify exactly what's going on and how much oral dosage you were on, when you took it, etc?

what dosage of mesalamine enemas? And what's the schedule you use them?

My son can't swallow pills. We dissolve his Sulfa. We try for 2 grams a day (4 pills) but , usually get half that. Some say it will never reach the colon? I have had conflicting information about that. Nonetheless, we do it.
Now the enema's. Not sure about yours, but my son's are 4mg. That's a lot ( in a good way). I really think that's helping him right now stay in remission (fingers crossed). He uses it 3-4 times a week at bedtime.
Perhaps weird, but I have read use it very slowly...--- to use it with a little force so it goes up farther. He has left sided UC, so of course lays in his side.
We alternate the slow to a bit more pressure.
ALWAYS squeeze all the air out.
I am new to all this, but of everything we do, I thing the enemas help him the most.

My twist is now i am using canasa and it is a mesa suppository and seems to be helping with rectal issues. What a whacky disease. Sometimes something works other times it doesnt, then it does! So weird! I hope you find answers here.

To add to the mesalamine weirdness, I use Canasa suppositories to help with proctitis inflammation, but can no longer use mesalimine enemas as they do not help and actually even make things a little worse.

In fact, if I overuse the suppositories, say once a day for four or five days straight, that creates its own tenesmus-like symptoms that go away only after I cease their usage for a period of time. But there's no question that the suppositories, when used sparingly, do help.

And this is why I keep medication logs.
