Support Group etiquette and one-upping

Hey guys,

posted a video about Support Groups and personal support and our (usually) accidental tendancy to want to "one-up" eachothers diseases.

It holds good message.....waaaaaay too long and you tend to know how everyone feels, which means personalising the issue for everyone else. Try not to victimise newbies.

Keep in mind that not everyone is legit, some are just plain narcisstic, some are continually patronising and it's habit of some to read way more into the written word.that isnt blatently obvious.

support comes in many ways.....your first slip was to compare the CD foum members to the UC forum members. Your second slip was to say someone with less symptoms was lucky. Some need mothering, some are only needy and never comment other than on their own threads, some call members dear, hon, sweety, some give much support but are sniped continually.

while we are all IBDers.....differentiation is important. Support is learned, and those who feel the need to compete might eventually learn different perspective It too is a learning process.

I'm not slamming your subject. The variables are vast to have it as you would like.

Yeah..I never see it as one-upping either. I see it as INSPIRING that others have it worse yet soldier on, with a sense of humor, even.....and I learn a lot in the process and am thankful others are willing to share such personal and intimate stories. I also feel um...not exactly *lucky* ....how to describe... my own personal struggles seem so small in comparison to what others on here deal with.
