I've been flaring for a few weeks now. My symptoms include cramping/discomfort, bloody stools, and my stools are not formed. I am currently taking 4 lialdas per day and get a remicade infusion every eight weeks. In addition, I am also taking a nightly enema to help calm my symptoms. I have been taking the enema for almost two weeks now and my cramping has decreased, but it seems that there is more blood and still no formed stools. Is this a good or a bad sign, and if it is a bad sign, how long does it usually take for the enemas to make a difference?

Have you taken mesalamine medications successfully in the past?

Have you had stool samples checked for possible invaders?
If you weren't on any rectal meds before 2 weeks ago, and just started them...hang tough.
How many times a day are you having bms...including any evacuation/urgency, etc.
Has that improved since starting the enemas.

Is it worth taking rectal meds for cramping? That is the only symptom I am having at present but its really painful and lasts all day. I have salofalk and petasa enemas at home.

How long have you been on Remicade and at what dose? Did the Remicade ever work? If so, it might not be working anymore or you may have developed antibodies to it.

Any improvement is good. Enemas work pretty quickly, usually within 3 days or a weeks time. You've probably gotten as much healing as you will from the enemas (don't discontinue them yet or you will likely get worse). Ask your GI to increase your dosages or add medications as you need more and stronger treatments.
