Just returned from the GI. He's stopping the Prednisone. I was down to 5mg anyway. Starting back on the Uceris. He said 3 tabs all at once, once a day. Really? I'm not sure about that.

He also wants to do another "booster" of Remicade this Thursday, which will be just two weeks since my last one.

We are also testing for C-Diff.

Something's got to give.

Ummm... find a new GI because he gave you some serious misinformation. Stuff like this is very irresponsible and can land you with further issues.

You can't take 3 uceris at once or you risk adrenal insufficiency. Many GIs confuse uceris with entocort, as the maximum dosage of entocort is 9 mg (three 3 mg pills).

The maximum dosage of Uceris is a single 9 mg tablet taken once daily.

Your intuition trumped your doctor's stupidity. Good on you because many people would follow them blindly (I was once guilty of doing this).

I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but I read about someone who was told to take 10-15 times the normal amount of prednisone and he lost function of his adrenals because of it. The prescription was written incorrectly. His adrenals are forever shot because of it.

Doctors don't know this but their mistakes are very very lethal these days. Can't mess around with medicine. I don't care how stressed out they are, but it's wrong and immoral to screw around with someone's life like that.

And believe it or not but these mistakes are fairly common. They couldn't give two sh!ts about it. That's why it will continue to happen unless patients advocate for themselves.

I actually think it was lost in translation. He is on another bloody vacation and the nurse had to call him to get instructions for the latest treatment plan.

Not sure if you are in the U.S. or not, but over here the pharmacist actually is much more informed on meds than the doctors. If ever unsure about meds, you can always check with a pharmacist about appropriate dosages. If they are unsure, they look up the information for you. I don't know anything about uceris dosages, but I'm sure if you do a little research you can find out. Also, not sure about this adrenal insufficiency business that was mentioned. The whole point of steroids is to suppress adrenal function.

Yes, I checked with my pharmacist afterwards. He agreed that the daily dose is 9mg.

I think what Guardian what talking about is after taking high doses or long term Prednisone it can cause lazy adrenal glands or damage them to the point of non function.

Entocort is similar to Uceris and comes in 3mg pills. Entocort releases farther up in the tract than Uceris does. Someone is confusing the two meds which are somewhat similar.

Now that we have that settled, let's talk Remicade. Is he giving the 5mg dose again? He should order the Prometheus tests before the infusion to see if appropriate levels are in your system. It can advise is your are metabolizing it faster and it isn't at therapudic levels, or if it is too low and you need more. You won't most likely get hurt by another 5 mg dose...that said they took my daughter up to 10msg per kilo, increased frequency to 2 weeks and she had an allergic reaction( no improvement that time). Just ask what is ordered for you. Hope you start seeing improvement thru these loading doses, cause Remi might be your answer. Hang tough.

Yes, we are at 5mg/kg. I'm going to call tomorrow about having the lab work done.

I'm trying to be patient and positive that Remicade WILL be the answer.
