Pancreatitis due to Lialda

hey everyone so i was on Lialda 4 tabs a day for almost a year and last week i had severe abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting, i had to go to ER, where my GI diagnosed pancreatitis due to Lialda. I don;t drink or dnt have any gallstones so he said lialda might have caused this. it has this rare side effect. I was also taking canasa suppositories which has mesalamine as an active ingredient. i was in hospital for about 1 week as my pancreatic enzymes were high. it was over 10,000 when i was admitted to ER (and normal limits are less than 400) when i was discharged it was still higher than normal. but he said it'll go down in a week. So he said to stop taking both of them and just continue my Uceris. I have been taking Uceris for about 5 months now. I think its helping my UC. Did anyone else have pancreatitis due to Lialda?

Not due to Lialda, but I developed pancreatitis due to azathioprine. It was VERY painful. Glad you're okay!

I've been on Lialda since 2011 in one form or another and have also had Pancreatitis twice(which is rare for someone in their 20's), it is painful and eating is awful for a few days but once mine cleared up I felt totally normal again. Took about 4-5 days total each time. I am also on Uceris and have been on it in the past and it has helped a ton both times. There's something called auto immune Pancreatitis, (which i'm being observed for now) did they mention that at all?

also had pancreas issues. it really damaged it. the GIs are not sure if its due to mesalamine OR autoimmune.

pmedic: i am curious about you using immuran as they do not want me to use it because it could also induce pancreatitis. I am also anxious to know how your diagnosis was charged from uc to crohn. I am told I have uc butwine I read in research about the duodenum inflammation causing pancreas problems I am wondering if this was the culprit. if you don't mind, how and why was your diagnosis changed from uc to crohn. was it just the inflammation at duodenum?
