Saw the GP today

I had a physical today and we talked about what's been going on with my flare and new symptoms.

What I thought was prednisone side effects and anxiety might be my thyroid. Fasting bloodwork tomorrow morning to figure it out.

Very typical hyperthyroidism symptoms now that I've researched it, rapid heartbeat, high BP, sweating, slight tremors, swollen eyes, blurry vision. I've been brushing it off as UC and med related stuff.

Gotta love my immune system.

Hi LG: I was diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism at the same time I had my first flare. Even a small change in TSH can trigger UC. There is quite a bit of literature online that tie thyroid disorders with UC and (not so much) Crohn's. My anxiety was brutal, like nothing I've ever experienced, high BP and rapid heartrate. The symptoms of Hashimoto's or hyperthyroid and hypothyroid can be similar. Some of the old school M.D.s tied all inflammatory bowel disease to the thyroid and immediately began dosing a full spectrum T3 T4 thyroid replacement very successfully!

One thing I'm curious about though is your MD should know that if you're taking pred it can alter your thyroid test results, though I think 10 mg should be okay.

Being diagnosed with UC is a blow to which one never fully recovers.

Most especially when we realize that having UC opens the portal to innumerable other problems, its a double blow, a double whammy, and we can only deal with each and every problem separately, as each arise, whilst trying to remain strong...

How often do your GI docs expect you to have appointments? How about colonoscopies?

My new GI wants me to come in twice a year, and get blood tests and colonoscopies once a year, even if I am feeling good.

Does this seem about right?

I can't say if it is right for you. But it is 100% in line with the standard of care. You were diagnosed almost 30 years ago, and should be having regular cancer screening.
