I have made an appointment to see a new doctor tomorrow. For the last couple of days I have had what feels like lower back ache, and then today I have had some strange pain in the area of where my kidneys are, its hard to describe, its not intense pain but enough to make me sit up and notice.

Also I have duplex kidneys....which I thought I should mention.

I wonder does anyone have any idea what this might be? and if it might be related to UC somehow. I don't know what to think, I don't think its a urine infection as urinating doesn't cause any problems.

a small percent of people get kidney problems from 5-asa - but since your anatomy is unusual, it is a big question mark

It's possible to have a kidney infection with back pain as the only symptom. It's good you're going in to have it checked. Keep us posted.

There's a long list of possibilities, it could be the mesalamine upsetting your kidneys, but that isn't a safe assumption. It's best to keep calm and check it out with your doctor or kidney specialist. Back pain is generally misleading and could mean a host of things, not always a kidney issue. Try not to stress over it or worry too much, it's probably nothing major.

And ask for creatinine level to be tested (it's part of metabolic panel, I think), one measure of kidney function.

Hi an update....The doctors receptionist at the hospital never bothered to call me back with an appointment, so I thought what the heck and went down to the local doctors. When I got to the doctors surgery two young woman, both wearing very high heels, miniskirts and low cut tops were chatting in reception. Then I was called in to see the doctor, and it was one of the young woman that had been chatting in the reception area...she was nice enough but it just doesn't fill me full of confidence and I couldn't take my eyes off her sparkly nail varnish with little hearts in the center. We had a chat and she sent me off to get my tests done elsewhere as their Laboratory was closed. I received the results back early evening and I don't have a urine infection, and I will get my blood results back on Friday.

I realized today however that since Sunday I have actually been taking my "new" Meds produced from the pharmacy in Costa Rica which is now beginning to worry me, as nothing is ever quite right here, and they do have a funny smell to them, I bought 2 months supply as well...I'm not going to panic but I am feeling miserable now, and tired and not that great. I suspect its the new tablets, I think I am going to have to stop taking them as of tomorrow, I feel hot and clammy, and I am prone to allergies so it could definitely be the Pentasa if they have not been produced correctly.

Hi, I received my blood results back and all appears to be fine.

I am still very unwell though, with a constant fluttering in my chest, and I can only attribute it to the Meds (capsules) which appear to be overly coated in a transparent plastic looking hard coating, which worry's me as I read today that certain plastic additives, designed to release the ingredients into our systems more slowly, can actually make you sick.

On top of that I also discovered that Manufacturers use excipients to bind pills together and help deliver the medication to the patient. There are several types of excipients, and some of them may contain Gluten....I am Gluten intolerant and it never occurred to me Gluten would be placed in drugs for sick people!! I rang the company I purchased the drugs from today and they are closed until 5th January and my GI is away until the 5th too.

I cannot continue to take something which I suspect is poisoning me and so I have no Meds, nothing.

I think I will have to try to order some Meds online tomorrow. Could you recommend a good company to use? How does it work, will I have to send them a copy of my prescription from my GI, I have never done this before and so not sure what to expect.

My husband is sick of all this, and I cannot say I blame him, I'm sick of this too, he tries to be helpful but he is so over all the problems I have had with trying to get my Meds.

Hi Poppie, Glad your blood tests were good. Sorry you still feel so unwell.
I don't know about capsules. So can't help with that.
Just wanted to send some support your way. I know it's truly exhausting to search for answers when you are trying to get on the right medications. Reading to get informed and then advocating for ourselves -- on top of feeling sick -- really takes its toll.
Hoping you can find a way to rest to increase resilience.

Thank you for your kind words ContentProf its appreciated, I have rambled on a lot recently and I think people are sick of hearing about my problems, I know my husband is lol!! its been a rocky few days...I really felt like I had been poisoned.

However I have had a really lucky break!!!

I rang my sister this morning, she lives in England, she and two of my nephews have Crohns disease...and my sister takes Mesalamine Yay!!!!

as I type this she is on her way to buy some supplies for me, to which she will Fedex from England...



I feel better already!!
