Hey Jess, I'm about to complete a cycle of betnesol enemas, and I will give you a few tips on what to do in order to ease the discomfort. It isn't the most practical thing to have to do, and there's a big mental bump you need to get over before it becomes a "normal" part of your day.
What you'll need is the following: the enema, a clean towel, a decent lubricant, and some form of entertainment outlet (non-technological or electronic)
1. Use a towel you don't need and lay down somewhere warm that you can stay for a while (some folks prefer their bed, I use the bathroom floor).
2. Lay down on your left side with your knees slightly bent, and make sure you can comfortably remain in that position for a while.
3. Lubricate both your anus and the enema as well as you possibly can.
4. Squeeze the enema very gently so as to get rid of the air inside, you will see the liquid rise through the tube and you must pinch it with just enough power to keep it full.
5. Slowly insert the enema, then grab it, lift it slightly, and squeeze it little by little, after the first half is in and you feel confident enough to carry on, take a hold of roughly an inch at the bottom of the enema and fold it towards you, thereby continuously emptying the rest of the enema.
6. Once you are finished and holding the whole emptied and folded enema in one hand, preferably between your thumb, index and middle fingers, remain in place for roughly thirty minutes. This will allow the enema to spread out, remain inside, warm up and settle in, so as to minimize discomfort and eliminate any unnecessary urgency.
7. When you are ready, clean up the surrounding area, throw out what you need to and head to bed. Upon arriving to bed, lay on your back and control your breathing, avoid sleeping on your stomach or on any side that causes you to run to the bathroom (usually the left side) for that given night.
I know it can be difficult at the beginning and it may impact your sleep for a while, but it truly gets easier over time. Best of luck with it all and sweet dreams.
