Tylenol not working for headaches

Tylenol seems to be useless for headaches that are pretty bad, any suggestions, even natural welcome!

Same problem here, dmc! My head is killing me day and night and tylenol doesnt do anything. Im getting desperate.

Do you think it is probiotic, have you seen that connection?

You can try an icepack on back of neck and on head, that helps sometimes. Also, if migraine, tea with a little caffeine (if okay for your UC ) and dr. Prescribed Midrin which has Tylenol but other goodies in it that helps. Hate those darn headaches.

+1 for caffeine as B says -

I know it's not the greatest, but Mexican (real sugar baby!) Coke is my remedy for a sinus headache -

I seem to get headaches when taking vsl#3. Are you in the US? If not Novalgin would be a good pain killer however it's banned in the States.

Have you tried coffee with lemon? It's yucky but helps.

I have the same problem....sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't....when it doesn't it gets real brutal and drives me crazy.

I used to take Motrin which almost always worked....but obviously that's not an option now...

When my headaches get really bad I also reach for something caffeinated. It helps but sometimes sleep and a dark, quiet room are the best treatment. Also, could you be dehydrated? I get wicked headaches if I get dehydrated, and water is a pretty cheap solution.

I know I will get beat up for this, but I take Advil. Tylenol does nothing for me. As long as you aren't taking it chronically you should be fine.

I'm the same as Sue, but I take Aleve. I don't get migraines/headaches often anymore so I don't take much. Aleve is the only thing that helps me, if I don't take it, then I'm in pain for 3+ days.

Are you getting enough sleep? How are stress levels? Could also be food intolerances (wheat, dairy, high-fructose corn syrup, msg, etc). Elimination diet might help. Those are definitely my triggers.

It also says you are on budesonide (entocort) - that might overwork the HPA axis (stress response) and cause it.

While pills might help temporarily, I would advise doing some audit on your life and seeing what is causing it.

I get really bad headaches from Humira, I take Tylenol 1 when they are super bad , I also have a script sitting g in the cupboard with 4 Tylenol 3s for the super unbearable days which are like once every 2 months or so. just regular tylenol if they are not bbad

Sometimes I have to take an NSAID if it's bad. I also have some zomig which may or may not do the trick, but I always try it before resorting to NSAID. Ponstel helps my migraines a lot. You need a script for both of these things. if you're getting headaches often you should consider seeing a headache specialist and see what they advise. When I was getting them regularly, I took a antidepressant and it wiped them out completely. I have heard some mention cal/mag helping prevent headaches but it didn't help mine.

Like sue bear said... Advil, haha.

Lately I've had some rough headaches and they are hard to shake. I go for as long as I can without taking anything. Tylenol does nothing - So I have to admit I hit the Advil when I can't stand it anymore. Always goes away within an hour or so, but had one that I had to take Advil a second time.

I do this as minimally as possible of course.

A nurse practitioner told me this though - for severe headaches in the "bush" up here in Canada when a hospital is far away:

Two very large glasses of water
2 Tylenol
2 Advil
1 cup of coffee

She said if this does't do the trick in a dew hours they'll ship the person to the hospital.

My Dr has prescribed me Tramadol to take when I get a big headache.

Oh headaches are the worst! And with us Uc'ers it's a double edge sword. I have headaches every day but very rarely ever do I take an NSAID. I've been in remission for 2 years so I don't want to rock the boat :) so my go to is caffeine and Tylonel - not regular or extra strength but the arthritis formula. It has higher Mg's then the others.

I hope you get rid of the ache soon!

Ralefan 750mg, if you don't see any benefit in 2 to 3 hours, pop another one. Ralefan is a pro-drug that means it needs to be metabolized by the liver before it works. It usually takes me about 2 hours to notice the benefit. Lately, things are on a slippery slope and I think I have reached the limit. Last week, I had to take 4 and still no relief !! (DON'T take 4, max 2)

Those who benefit from Advil and Alleve will certainly benefit from Ralefan, but it will not trouble the gut.

I see no where that relafen won't possibly cause any gastro issues, but it's another possibility for headache relief if they're unrelenting.

I use aspirin for headaches that are sickening in combination with Gravol. I pretty much get headaches daily related to neck and upper back issues, and my chiro does help. Stretching, exercise, etc would for sure be in my best interests as more of a preventative..sigh..

I've never looked into something like Hylands, has anyone?

I guess it depends on the cause of the headaches.
I use a NeilMed Neti Pot containing a saline solution because headaches I usually get are related to sinus issues.

Also made a home remedy - a man's white sock filled with rice. Heat in microwave, apply to neck (careful not to apply directly on skin if too hot). More flexible than a heating pad.
Caffeine also helps.

I got stress headaches when I worked and took a LOT of Ibuprophen which I think contributed to my UC diagnosis.

If interested, check on pubmed. When I started using it, I searched thoroughly and learned that it is a new class of NSAID that specifically developed to avoid GI side effect. I get bleeding within 4 hours of Alleve and Advil and I have been using Ralefan for more than 2 years, almost once a week, if not more.

I take enteric-coated aspirin. I've not found ibuprofen or tylenol to be effective at all. Luckily I rarely get headaches. The aspirin would probably irritate my insides if I took it frequently.
