Parts of the colon heal at different rates?

Had a flex sig yesterday, reported 'almost normal appearances in the rectum to the rectosigmoid junction', but 'moderately active disease to the limit of the examiantion in the mid-transverse'. Is it normal for the different parts of your colon to heal at different rates? (I'm not using any rectal meds).

I'm feeling nowhere near 'almost normal'... still going five times a day with some blood, Mayo Score of 8. I was surprised that my flex sig suggested I was doing better than before. Is there a reason it looks like I'm doing okay when I don't think I am?

Gosh, I feel like the rectum is always the most difficult to heal and it alone can cause major issues. It's a good sign if things look better but the most important thing is that you feel better.

clear areas are uncommon, but not unheard of. in this case, what is "seen" as clear may not be what biopsies show as clear.

Biopsies go under a microscope and they are looking specifically for signs of inflammation. Your GI may see no inflammation when he looks through the scope, however, it might show up when the biopsy results are returned. So it is really a combination of visual + biopsies when judging you uc.
