Abdominal pain but no other symptoms?

Hi all,

For the last week or so I've been having abdominal pains of varying severity. Over the last three days it's mainly been on my right side, a few inches right of my belly button. It's a mild to moderate burning/itching type of pain that seems to come and go throughout the day. I'm sure it must be from some kind of inflammation in my bowel, but I don't seem to have any other symptoms; I'm passing 1 formed stool per day with no urgency and no blood or mucus.

My previous flares have usually started with diarrhea and then the abdominal pain comes much later and is usually associated with bloating/gas which I don't seem to have this time either.

I did just finish a pred taper, but my last flare up with steroid resistant, so I don't think it was doing anything for me anyway.

Has anybody else had this? I am seeing my GI in 2 weeks but am considering seeing my GP earlier if it persists

itching? That seems odd.

What comes to my mind when you talk about burning/itching pain around your waist is shingles. Any sign of redness on your skin?

Maybe itching was the wrong word, "irritation" is more apt. Just like a mild burning pain that sometimes gets worse, and sometimes isn't there at all.

I think it's definitely internal, there's nothing on my skin. I've had shingles before and I don't think it's that.

When I first was diagnosed with UC it seemed to be the same the first symptoms I noticed were urgency and loose bowels followed by diarrhea, then finally stomach pains would eventually follow. Years later, and I don't know if it is because of the meds, the time with UC or if it me/us getting better at telling the signs of an oncoming flare. But anymore the first signs I get are a loss of appetite followed by stomach pains burning sensations etc. So for me your symptoms are right on par with the beginning of inflammation heading towards a flare. If I were you this is the time to start doing everything you can to stop it in its tracks.

Thanks for the reply. How long does it take for your symptoms to progress?

Not sure what I can do to stop the flare if it is one. I have enemas but I doubt they will reach as far as where the pain is coming from. My next infliximab infusion isn't for another 4 weeks :(

I get the same pains before a flare. I would suggest increasing your meds to stop it in its tracks.
