Anyone have bad heart burn with ASACOL HD

I had some horrible heart burn last night. Actually the last two nights have been pretty bad. Anyone, have this experience starting up on ASACOL again? Does it go away after a few days? I have only been on it since Monday.

My heartburn issues are usually food related, though it's possible medications can cause it. I think it's unlikely that the asacol HD is doing it since it is formulated to release in the large intestine (and not in the esophagus or stomach)

The addition of fermented foods (sauerkraut, kale-chi) prior to meals fixed my issues. You might want to keep a food log and see if certain foods/ingredients are causing it. Also, yogurt/kefir, stress reduction techniques and proper sleep might help.

thanks, i had tomato soup last night. i wonder if that made it that bad. i know tomato are not really that good for UC but i can't imagine it making me stay up all night burning like it did..

just talked to the doctor, told me to go get nexium, if still heart burn by monday, they will change ASACOL to something else.

hi i am 44 and was just had my diagnoses with UC lost 43 pounds spent 21 days in hospital, i was sent home on a whole list of meds Asacol 800mg 3 times a day, predni 20mg to times day , iron, calcium, multi vietamin, pepsid 40mg, also receiving Remicade treatment. i was suffering from stomach pain every day lower back pain, no energy . i went back to doc took me off the asacol, all stomach issues went away!!!!!!

Oh says you are on pred - that was definitely something that gave me intense heartburn @ times. Nexium (temporarily) might be a good idea.

It could def be a food trigger (wheat, nightshade) then. Anything with tomato used to give me bad reflux, though not anymore. Wheat is problematic for many folks as well.

I think nexium will ease it short term, but I recommend figuring out the possible food triggers as well. I know stress also plays some role in causing reflux.
