I want to hear about
people that are healed naturally with nopal and
Hear about
doctors and pharmaceutical companies losing money.
I'm being somewhat envious about
it, but they don't really care.
It's all about
making money not finding a natural cure. They would rather you suffer and not be cured so they can continue to profit.

I will try it. I just have to go to the market and find it. I think if I pick it off a trail I will probably get the wrong thing, lol, my luck stinks. I think I know a market that will have it

In other countries like El Salvador , the cost of going to a doctor is so little compared to hear yet it's still hard for them because minimum wage is less than a dollar an hour. So they have to find natural remedies any way they can. UC can sometimes be caused by contaminated water.

I have been doing this regime for couple of days now. I think its helping me little with the pain. I'm not sure about
the extent because my symptoms were already better. But I can feel its cooling my body.

Colitis may be caused by contaminated water but I doubt UC does.

I finally found a Mexican grocery store here that has some. Going tomorrow to get some. How long do the leaves stay fresh? I'd like to buy enough for a couple weeks since it's not convenient for me to get to this store.

I've got some Prickly Pear (Nopal cactus) fruit extract but haven't tried it yet. Anyone had an experience with it? Hopefully it will help!

mah -- I think the fruit is different than the leaves but it's the same plant.
The store was out of the whole cactus leaves/pads, but they did have a big bag that was already cut up for use in cooking/salads. The owner said 1 bag was equivalent to about
4 leaves and it was cheap --$2.99 for the whole bag! I split up the bag into 4 smaller bags. The only downside was that the pieces were pretty small so it took a little while to get them sliced up. The flesh between the skin wasn't very gel like though so not sure what that means -- maybe not fully ripe? It's soaking now and tomorrow will be my first glass. The owner said he'll have a new supply on Tuesday of the whole pads so I might go back in then to get some, but I didn't want to wait and at least I didn't have to deal with any thorns lol Will post an update after I've been drinking this stuff for a few days.
Would be nice is the subject line of this thread could be changed to "Nopal for ulcerative colitis" because the word "cure" really rubs people the wrong way.

This is almost 2 weeks now that I am drinking a glass of Nopal cactus juice. I am pleasantly surprised as I don't have any symptoms now. Although I am still taking 4 Apriso tabs. I have feeling that this Nopal thing is doing something as I have good energy and my skin is clear and shiny (people noticed the change)
My dad calls this Nopal juice "aliens' remedy" as it is light greenish gel like and smells like cucumber.
There is no taste. I am thinking of putting some flavor like lime or orange in the juice.

Apart from whether it is beneficial for ulcerative colitis or not it is said that prickly pear has a constipating effect anyway.

King of the Toilet is what I've been in my family's house these past few weeks, I'd love to relinquish this title x_x

I had my first glass this AM. I wouldn't call it "gel-like" -- more like thick water -- and it's not green but it does taste like cucumber. Hopefully I don't croak lol
Too much of the prickly pear fruit can cause constipation, but that doesn't apply to the pads. Eating too much of the pads can cause diarrhea because of the fiber content. Couldn't find any warnings about
drinking the water.

and here's some other info about
prickly pear

My only continuing issue is occasionally seeing a small bit of blood. Hoping that this Nopal water can heal the last bit of inflammation that I can't seem to shake. I don't want to have to go up the medication ladder after the bad experience with azathioprine.

Does anyone know where I can get this in Canada online? Not sure of any shops that would carry it, I've tried calling around but no luck.

Those were for pills or some sort of extract. I'm wanting to get the actual cactus pads. Someone posted some from Ebay but with shipping and what not up to Canada it would be very expensive long term. That may be my only option though.

I just have to figure out what to do with it. It's prickly.
I will go back to page 1 and read the instructions.

I saw that gary and i wanted to buy it but i figured i should try following the recipe as discussed, otherwise if there was no result, i would wonder if it were because I got the tablets or if it just didn't work. This way I know I did everything as described. I have the water in the fridge but I have to be somewhere this afternoon so I will drink it afterwards.

Smart thinking notsosicklygirl, I was wondering myself if the tablets wouldn't be the same as getting a fresh leaf.

Wholefoods only got in the fruit part. I'm doing it the same way though, not sure if I'll be able to find the pads. Hopefully it still works.

I'm super interested to find out how this works for others. Always fun and interesting trying these home remedies :)
Just a thought - Could one not simply source the plant itself out at say a gardening store? So just buy/order a bunch of whole plants from the garden centre somewhere?

i think that's great idea Mark. I actually thought about
looking for the plant. since they grow here, I bet i could get it at the local nursery. I could get them for people and ship them but I don't think that's within the rules... :( I am drinking my cocktail right now. Sure hope it's helpful. Will report back!
It's kind of the consistency of coconut water but it has a little slimeyness to it. It's not all that flavorful though, almost smells like aloe vera or something similar.
