Does anyone that you know of in your family have ibd?
I want to change it to ibd because I know we have some members with relatives with Crohns. I can't figure out how to edit the poll...

I answered no. I am the only one I know of.

my dad, but he has the luckiest version of UC i have seen out of everyone on here. one flare at 23 yrs old and has been in remission since then. he will be 50 this year and smokes to stay in remission. eats whatever he wants and drinks like a fish.

Nothing from me, I'm the only one I know.
Our family does have a history of stomach problems though, ulcers, cancer etc, to an almost endemic degree, where every adult in past generations would have some sort of issue. It's tempting to think it might be related, but I'm the only one with bowel issues, so maybe it's just a fluke.

My Grandad has UC. Although he's only ever had one flare about 30 years ago and has only ever taken Pentasa for it. Not even religiously, he just takes it if he notices any signs of a flare and it gets rid of it right away. Wish I'd been as lucky as him!

I answered yes, my grandmother had Crohn's in her small bowel and eventually into her cecum. My grandfather (on the other side of the family) had "unexplained" rectal bleeding whenever he quit smoking, so he always went back to smoking. Despite numerous scopes he was never diagnosed with IBD but had lots of polyps.

My mother has irritable bowel syndrome and takes no medications. My father's sister (my aunt) has irritable bowel syndrome as well and takes anti-spasm drugs for it. I'm the first one with the more serious IBD uc or crohn's related diseases.

I stated "no" for the survey because I have no direct information, suspect my father's mother had it but it was not discussed, suspect my father had it toward his end of life along with multiple medical problems. No one in my generation and not a big family so fewer points of reference. So I'm more of a "maybe" for family connection.

No, I am the only one with IBD in my family.

Nope. I suspect there are a few cases of IBS, and I have four relatives who have had colon cancer, but no IBD.

Nope, 8 brothers and sisters and I am the lucky one. I should add that my older sister has "something" going on but not clear what and we live in diff states. It could be, but nit confirmed.

One of my cousins has Crohn's, but she's adopted, so that doesn't count in terms of this poll. And for those thinking it could be an environmental thing, we have always lived at least 150 miles apart and she's 10 years younger than I am.

Nope...just me. My grandpa had bouts with colitis...but they later decided he had diverticulitis, not UC at all.
My dad had 2 AI diseases...pyoderma gangrenosum and MS. So I'm thinking I don't have great genes in my favor...but I'll take UC over those 2.

My brother was diagnosed with RA when he was 13, Chrons at 16. I was diagnosed with UC at 30. There is a rumor that my maternal grandfather had some bowel issues. I don't think he was ever diagnosed but He had extreme urgency issues.

No, only person in family no-one with IBS or IBD...

It's weird because I feel like often I see people on hw mention having a relative with ibd... I guess it's still not all that common for it to be found in families according to my poll. Maybe it's just that the people with a family history haven't responded. Hopefully this keeps going and we can get some more stats. I don't think it's necessarily environmental either. I have no idea why I developed this. Maybe it's from antibiotics but I hadn't used them for years prior to developing symptoms.

My uncle has a colectomy, had UC, my aunt had Crohns(passed away from complications), my mom has diverticulitis and ongoing IBS, so my daughter comes by UC honestly from my side. Plus, her dad is Ashkanazy (sp?) Jewish, her 23& me lists her as 48.5% Jewish.

I answered "yes"...My mom had UC which she didn't develop until her mid/late 60's, I got sick with crohn's in my early 20's so I actually became sick with IBD just before my mom did, I'm the last of 6 kids (on my mom's side--my dad had kids too from other relationships before my mom--they were both 40 when I was born so I was completely unplanned) so far none of my other siblings on my mom's side have any IBD but 2 sisters do have IBS issues (I do as well).
You won't likely get a very accurate poll since not everyone here at HW will necessarily respond to this thread for one thing.

My maternal great grandmother had some sort of bowel issue, my mother had Crohn's (died from complications) and I have UC. My daughter has IBS. So bowel issues tend to run on the maternal side of my family.

Yes vote for me. Myself, my sister, my cousin and my uncle all pancolitis. My cousin has been in remission for quite some time now and the rest of us have j pouches. Not a good track record for my family! Hoping it ends here and my kids never have to deal with this. My mom has RA....another crappy autoimmune disease to hate.

only me, but :
a few cases of ibs including my brother, my mother (and her mother) and most of her sisters all have rheumatoid arthritis and a couple with Alzheimer's from my grandmother family, and to put a cherry on top a couple with type 1 diabetes from my father side.
how many times could you say "you are screwed" ?
word of advice: if you have a fu*king autoimmune disease don't reproduce.
