Proctitis advice and GI in Ireland?

Hi all, I live in Ireland, I was diagnosed in June 14 with Mild Proctitis and was put on a course of pentasa suppositories and yesterday I had another scope that showed Severe Proctitis and Severe spasms throughout the whole colon.
Whatever the spasm part means??
Anyhoooo my GI seems terrible, ive not once had a chat with him, only a few words before my scope yesterday. I even left the hospital yesterday without him even prescribing me anything so I had to go to my own GP. She isn't happy with my GI either, she says her hands are tied but wants me to try get him to refer me to a different GI in Dublin.


Is anyone here from Ireland and being treated in Dublin (Beautmont)?

Also for those with severe proctitis or even the spasms in the colon, what's meds are yous on?

I didn't know scopes could show spasms in the colon. I thought spasms were felt not seen? That's a new and interesting one for me anyway.

I don't even know what exactly having the spasms mean.... does it mean there is inflamtion throughout?

I know there are anti spasam medications prescribed to those who have ibd (some with ibs). Spasms cause pain when pooping. Those meds relieve that symptom.

I had this issue a little over a month ago for the first time. The GI nurse explained that because of inflammation, the rectum wasn't functioning properly. I was actually unable to finish a BM because of the dysfunction. My doc prescribed hyoscyamine which is sublingual. I'm on the fence as to whether it helped me. When I was in the hospital a little after that, they prescribed bentyl for abdominal cramping. Both of these are antispasmodics.

Thanks for the replies. I feel so lost when it comes to what's going on with me, I even doubt what I'm feeling myself! Does anyone else get that??

I had that scope done last Thursday morning and still haven't had a bowel movement! Not for the want of trying or the feeling that I NEED to go, but nothing, one or two mucus covered pebbles feel out over the weekend. Ive no idea what it falling out of me, weather it's the disolved suppositories, cover in muscus and blood or bits of my colon lol. Also when I wipe now it looks like dark blood. I have left side pain, which is almost stitch like, and then the odd cramping over my abdomen.

On Friday my GP perscribed me Prednisolone 5mg x6 each morning for 4 days, tomorrow is my last day. Plus and antibiotic, I've 3 days left for that, she also told me to stay off the Pentasa suppositories until Friday. (I usually take 1mg morning and night) however because I was still bleeding I only went 2 days without it and started taking only one at night.

I got my appointment to see the GI on the 26th of this month but that's 3 weeks away, where I'll be totally unmedicated unless I go back to my GP again. I rang the GIs secretary to see if I can get a better appointment, I'll know tomorrow.
There is another GI that is willing to see me sooner, hes a friend of my hubby's friend.
So what do you guys think.... I really feel Yous know better than anyone, and really really appreciate your advice and input.
