Could my Cort enema be making me worse?

Hi everyone! I have been using cort enemas for about a month now with no improvement and even after my Remicade infusion which usually works within 24 hours I have no relief. I was feeling a little better, but I used an enema last night and it burned so bad and I was uncomfortable all night. Today the bleeding is back in full force (not that I had much of a break) and I'm so sore down there. Should I stop them? I am scared to death to keep using them. They seem to be interfering with my healing even with Remi! confused Any advice is welcome! Thank you!

Could you try cortifoam instead? I don't know if i get much relief from rectal meds lately but they don't make things worse in my case, just no change it seems like. Really, ideally, you want remicade to maintain your remission and you want to be off all steroids so you should have a plan for stopping the cortenemas all together at some point. have you tried switching to mesalamine or tried suppositories? they are lower dose. I would imagine your symptoms don't have much to do with the enema but more to do with the inflammation not being controlled. That or you have something else going on, like a fissure, fissures can sting, burn, bleed, tear, they are really painful and awful!

I'm unfortunately allergic to meslamine. :( I'm waiting to hear back from my doc to see if he has any suggestions. Usually the Remicade keeps me on track but after my last flex sig I flared up down there. Blood, mucus, pain, no D really, but urgency. I'm so tired of it! Thank you for replying! 😊

Well a fissure wouldn't cause urgency so you must have some inflammation in the rectum. I think you should try suppositories or cortifoam or both! It would be good if you could get that last bit controlled so you can keep moving forward with remicade. Pain can be a sign of things higher up unfortunately, is it cramp pain or discomfort when using the toilet? What did the sigmoidoscopy show?

At the time of the sig everything was perfect! It started right after. So crazy. I don't have much cramping like with full on UC but I have pain when I actually go. Very uncomfortable. Some days worse than others. I'll have one day and won't go at all and the next BAM! Mostly in the morning. I'm usually good for the most part after the morning turmoil! Lol!

Get some hydrocort suppositories and see if they help. Maybe the enema isn't getting the last inch or two and that's where the problem is.
