Ok major confused Please help

I was in my drs office today and he pulled up my record from this colonoscopy. It clearly states in that paperwork that all my biopsies were normal, that one polyp was removed and it says that the irritation was probably from the colonoscopy prep and my bleeding is probably from my hemorrhoids. If that's the case, I still have no explanation for the muscus,other puss like stuff I had to begin with, diarrhea, that feeling like I really had to go but passed nothing but blood and mucus, and the other uncomfortable and sometimes painful symptoms I was having... which was the reason along with the bleeding, for my going to get the colonoscopy to begin with. And why, when I spoke to the GI dr did he say it is colitis and why did he prescribe the Canasa? Im still having mucus and blood but it does seem to be better today. Hoping it remains that way. Im just so confused. I also don't want to be taking a med for something I don't have and not be treating the thing I do have (which is the hemorrhoids) I was going to call the GI today, but my son was home sick we had appointments, it was just really busy. I AM calling tomorrow tho because I don't understand whats going on.

I know. I have never been so confused. And like I said, then what is causing all these issues?? IBS?? I have had that and Ive never passed mucus without stool. This was different than anything Ive ever experienced before.

Yeah, Gary's right. The pathologist is not the one to make the final call on the diagnosis, since s/he did not actually visualize your colon. The GI is the one who goes through the differential diagnosis.

Since you were experiencing blood and mucous and urgency before you did the colonoscopy prep, and you have seen improvement on Canasa, it seems logical to conclude that there is an inflammatory problem in your rectum.

Your GI's decision to prescribe Canasa is consistent with that thinking. Please do not make yourself crazy with reading the pathology report in the absence of a conversation with the doctor.

Yea Im going to call him tomorrow and see what he says. Im going to keep on the Canasa because, like you said, I AM seeing improvement. I just wish it worked faster. lol. But it is helping already with my lower symptoms. I don't have them as often.

did he say colitis or ulcerative colitis. I think maybe just colitis. That means there was inflammation. canasa can treat that.

the mucus could have been form a passing infection or virus.

the "normal" biopsies tend to rule out UC, but make sure they were not saying normal in the no cancer sense. Ask specifically if the shape of the crypt cells was normal.

Also....he said colitis. He said to try this CANASA for two weeks and check back and if it wasn't working then he could treat with other meds. I do have a 3 month supply of the canasa though. The mucus I have had off and on for a long time so I don't think that's from an infection. By long time I mean like years off and on. The thing that was different this time, that Ive never had happen before was the blood and the passing of mucus without stool. And the feeling like I really had to go a lot but nothing would happen. I also had a feeling like something was "stuck" in there. The dr said that was from the inflammation. Which still confuses me because now he is saying the inflammation was from the bowel prep, although the symptoms were there long before I drank that stuff.

Please get a copy of the pathology for YOUR records and research.

Bring it here and tell us what it says..

So I spoke to my dr and he says my actual diagnosis is now proctitis. He says we might clear it up and never have a problem again but im genetically predisposed to bowel issues so its most likely chronic. However, he wants me to stay on the Canasa for two more weeks and see how its going. If the mucus and bleeding stops, he would take me off and see what happens. ugh

So....once again, get a copy of those results.

The proctitis is diagnosis for inflammation in the rectum. So...he's saying chronic as per the results, so you need those for your records and for clarification as to what you actually have. Meaningf...is he saying it's probably ulcerative? or what?

I doubt he'd take you off from there...you see how you're doing. go from there...means we'll revisit the plan then.

yea I have to go in and sign a release to get a copy of the actual results. All they sent me in the mail was a letter saying what they found and did during the procedure. Im hoping to be able to get there this coming week. Its about 40 miles from where I live and I have limited transportation.

flip, if you have a printer you can call the clinic or facility and ask them to email you their records release form, then you can just print it and mail it in. I get so flippin' angry when the actual PATIENT the person the actual body that was examined, has to sign a release for their own records. It's STUPID!!!!!! If they won't do it, I can email you with a standard release of records form for America. God, the audacity!!! GAH it makes me so angry.
