Help.... I'm in what has escalated fast a bad flare, i know it is viscous as I'm waking up through the night (no sleep) I was going well until falling ill with severe sinus infection / polyps that caused me serious issues. I couldn't get in to see my usual doc who understands my illness and the doc i saw was arrogant, i told her all the antibiotics i can't tolerate and to put me on bactrim as i tolerate this and have used for sinus previous. She refused and had take doxyxycyline? I took the course it did nothing but send me into the worst flare ever! Now I'm on bactrim and i.fection clearing but flaring like crazy! I started 30mg pred that wasn't working so upped 35mg and 3 days in still no relief? 30mg always clears me up in the past. I have app with new gi in 2 days but I'm a bit worried. If i have more time off work my job will not be there for me. Shud i start colifoam also? I have inflammation in proctiis area also from last scope.

What to do.. confused

Hey Indigo69 sorry to hear about what happened.

the antibiotics, esp. doxy, are known to cause UC and Crohn's, some doctors are just ignorant of it they are human too and not all knowing.

unfortunately you have to be the one who is your own doctor, you can take other doctors advice, but that's all it is, advice

best thing would be to stop taking the antibiotics, have you tried Rowasa or sfRowasa? they are really good for rectal inflammation, and can reach some of the proctosigmoid area, not enough to reach the sigmoid though.

I actually tried to extend the applicator tip to 20cm, since that was where my inflammation was, but it was so painful sticking the thing up there, I think I caused more damage shoving it up there than it healed, as the BMs after felt like hot knives.

Have you thought about 6mp/biologics or surgery? All GI doctors have a med ladder, its the same for all GIs (90% CI)

Now call that ****** doctor office and thank her for the flare, or better yet send her a card. What an arrogant....,

Sorry that happened, next time don't take anything but what you know you can tolerate. I still scared of antibiotics and have not found a safe one.

Yes doxy is evil! My doc was away and would never have put me in this predicament. It infuriates me that doctors have so little empathy for chronic illness. I had no choice but to take the risk as i had a wk off very ill and needed to kick infection, now back to square one on course of bactrim.

I will be discussing my opt for surgery with new GI tomorrow as this illness is killing me. I haven't tried rowasa but will discuss this with go. Problem is i have had terrible care since i moved from big city. Crossing fingers new GI imwill get me sorted as I'm going to city to see him.

I felel you, but you are not alone you have us. We all can feel your pain. I found a really good therapist and I think it helps to go in and cry for an hour, that what I paing for.

I also found books on Amazon for living with chronic illness, I ordered one. I can't wait to get it.

It's just me and my teen and I TRY to stay normal when I am not. What a bummer to be a kid with a sick mom!!! I can't imagine. She is helpful when the chips are down though.

You could try a higher dosage of pred and hope it gets back to where the Asacol manages things. But is sounds like Asacol never did fully manage. You man need to add an immune suppressant.

I hope you will never again take pills you know are bad for you. The doc was arragont, but your judgement is hard to understand. Not to be harsh, but I would have flat out told the doc that I was unwilling to use the docxy. You can change docs. You have just one colon.

Be aware that the pred could help bad bacteria grow in your colon. If you aren't, take a probiotic! I developedu first UC flare while taking pred and augmentin at the same time for sinus infection, bronchitis and and asthma attack.
Hope your new GI offers some help tomorrow.

I am very firm actually and as i said I'd had a wk off work was seriously ill with crohnic sinusitis, my doctor was away on leave. I had no choice but to take the risk, i could not get another app with another doc. This is the situation and i dealt with it as best i knew how.

Indigo I understand, when a job is at stake we have to mk tuff decisions, I prob would have taken it just hoping it kept me well enogh to keep working. Completely understandabe!

That is so messed up! I read all the time on here about doctors not listening and being a-holes and it just blows my mind! It makes me feel so lucky that I have such good doctors who aren't jerks like that. I'm so sorry yours didn't listen to you. Wonder if she has a deal with doxy and gets like a commission on what she prescribes or something. Gah that just makes me so angry that doctors could treat patients like that. My pred taper usually starts at 40mg, except once right after I was diagnosed with severe pancolitis after a colonoscopy and my doctor said 60mg. 40mg usually does it for me though except that one time when I was in severe pain and 60mg saved me from ripping out my colon with my bare hands.

If diarrhea and urgency are your main problems try and eat binding foods. If you're eating at all right now that is. I know when I was in the worst flare of my life I had no appetite whatsoever and if I did eat something I basically had to eat on the toilet. If it's pain, try a heating pad.

I hope your doctor can give you some relief. I'm so sorry. Feel better!

Thank you for understanding! My job is already at risk as they seem to be getting tired how it impedes my work performance when I'm there and all the time i have had off. I'm a single woman living alone supporting myself and cant afford to loose my income. UC is the worst thing that has ever..

I am single mom and I totally get it!!!! I hope you feel better soon and can keep working and deal at the same time.

I come home from work and am so exhausted. I hit the couch. I try to make sure I stay very low so I have the energy. This flare has done a number, but going grain fr seems to help a little.
