Travel towards FMT HOPE

we are very excited... we will be travelling

My daughter's appointment in Rome is on Tuesday, to see a specialist to discuss FMT,

after her mega flareup in December, now she is quite ok, stress is a bit under control as many exams of uni has been given.

Keeping our fingers crossed....

I'm confused. If she's doing OK now then why the FMT?

you see, My daughter has ulcerative PAN colitis since 2013. in December 2014 she had a severe flareup where the bleeding 20 times diareah a day,it was almost pure blood, couldnt be stopped for many days, even during her stay in the hospital, with severe feeling of stripping off the colon. a heavy dose of cortisteroids, and atlast it stopped with asacol foam.

STILL even the slightest thing can make her run to the loo, with cramps. her Gastro said she may have to do a colectomy which made her go in to crisis and i started doing my researches.
her latest colonoscopy and biopsy, now confirms of a one centemetre ulcer on the ileium.
Thanks to this forum members who gave me an idea of FMT, i spoke to my cousins researches in Boston who encouraged me.

yes, Ewa, Thank god, yes the only three places in Europe are England, Germany and Italy Policlinico Gemelli, we have the appointment with DR. Cammarota, who is incharge of this therapy. you can google to see his videos.

what we need to know is if it is possible for my D to do the FMT, anyhow being one of the best gastro's in Italy it is a blessing to talk to him.

ofcourse I will keep posting the outcome, if this can give some hope to any UC suffere I will be more than happy to be of help with information.

Thank you for your post, we need to keep our feet on the ground, not to have too much expectations, so yes... let's hope some thing works, i also had the sensation that it can be crohns, but the second biopsy results too said, moderate ulcerative pan colitis.

The trip to Rome - for information on FMT

THE Gastro specialist had an overall view on my daughter's tests.

Her colon has improved a lot since her forst colonscopy in Nov 2013. he says practically" it has ceased the fire"
she has been on mesalazena 1200mg x3 since Nov 2013- up to now. ever since she had three flareups, in dec 2014 was a very bad 3 week flareup. needed cortisone...

The one cm ulcer is on the" valvola ileale" in italian. translated i am not sure: on the ileial valve.

In fact he says it could be a sign of crohns but the biopsy declares it is moderate ulcerative colitis with ulcer on the ileial valve.

He wants my D to get contacted with the nearest best UC centre in northern italy, to get biological treatment , biological immuno suppressive.

AS TO FMT.

he says it is STILL UNDER EXPERIMENTATION, in the medical science there is no definit proof that this has really given definit answers for UC.
therefore, can be inserted as experimentation team member and not a patient. he adviced not to be done at this moment and to wait for another year or two.

The most winning moment for us is when the Proff said there is no risk of her going for surgery ileoctomy as her Gastro said which made my D and the family go in to a terrific panic , the real cause of our trip to Rome was that.( infact he adviced to change the Gastro and go to a more up to date hospital on UC.)

Could anyone explain what these probiotics are , i see very often written about.
