  I know everyone gets colitis for different reasons. I know some doctors won't try antibiotic therapy and others will. If you have tried numerous treatments and your body is not responding you should find a doctor that will try an antibiotic treatment for you.

  My little girl suffered for six years straight trying all the meds that " control the inflammation "   she was facing colon surgery and was VERY ill. She recieved an anitbiotic shot Rocephin and since that day her life has changed , a miracle happened in our lives.

 I believe and now the doctors do too, that she had a parasite/ bacteria in her colon for years that was not detected on the MANY stool samples that we had done throughout the six years that she was very ill. I have been told since she has been well that they cannot determine all of the bad bacteria in the colon and they do " what works" they try to control the inflammation or stop the immune system from attacking the invader.

It sounds like you are saying she had infectious colitis misdiagnosed as idiopathic UC. Right?

I read this before on here. interesting.

I'm going to click on that link later, but how many days did she took that antibiotic? what was the protocol?

   I would guess , but I wish it would of been that simple from all the doctors and testing that she had done.  That is my main point. She suffered for years.

 The only thing that was simple about everything was the fact that they just kept giving toxic medications to a child that never fixed the problem.

    I post because I wonder how many others may have an underlying parasite/ bacteria causing their symptoms.

 Especially those that try numerous medications with no relief.   It is like a viscous circle.

   She took the Rocephin for one day and then a 10 day course of Omnicef followed the Rocephin.

Please take the time to read the story about my daughters journey with this awful disease Ulcerative colitis.

There is hope.

Hailey is a healthy, happy, thriving 14year old girl.

She hasn't missed a day of school for the last two years, she is a straight A student , and a beautiful healthy girl.

We have nurtured her body back to health, and she is doing wonderful.

That's great but I do want to add that antibiotics can often make us worse rather than better. My UC started while I was in the hospital receiving Rocephin for what was thought to be an infection at the time. It later turned out to be Mono, which doesn't respond to antibiotics. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Rocephin has actually been linked to many cases of UC and I tried joining a class action suit but apparently they had discontinued the class action against the company. I'm absolutely thrilled that your daughter is doing so well but don't want anyone to jump into this without proper thought. It is very possible your daughter was misdiagnosed and had infectious colitis and not UC at all and that's why this worked for her. Continued good luck to you and her.

your daughter's recovery is great news.

the question you ask about "how many" is a key question. Since they do test for parasites and infection, it may be very few.

maybe this is a good thing for someone who has not responded to meds to try, especially if surgery is on the horizon

but it could make things worse. so it really depends on "how many"

even when meds have side effects for some, I am not sure "toxic" is the right words. Some antibiotics have been called "toxic" - people throw that word around.

I hope your guilt over your consent to the treatment of your daughter does not color the way your offer the suggestion of antibiotics.

I respect your opinion. And that is why I start my post with. " I know everyone gets colitis for different reasons." I would never want to harm anyone that is dealing with UC. I understand antibiotics may cause UC in some.

The main thing I want to stress is that I have doctors admitting to me, that " they do what works" they control the inflammation or they stop the immune system from attacking an invader on the body. It is impossible to catch every bad bug that colonizes our colons. My daughter is proof of it. Bacteria/ parasites can implant on the walls of the colon and live there for years. This is what her doctor has told us.

Believe me when I say... she had many stool test throughout the years. Done by numerous labs.

I post her story because she was very ill, and we were trusting of doctors to take the medications that controlled her inflammation.

When you say my guilt over the consent of treatment of my daughter could color the way I suggest antibiotics for others. I do not want that be the reason people think I post my story.

Again, I understand that antibiotics are the cause for UC in some. But please understand that my daughter was really sick, and I know from watching this forum through the years, some are dealing with the same issues. Some continue to follow the steps taken on the typical treatment of UC and find still no relief.

I only want to help. I am sorry if you feel I post because of my guilt of treatment of my daughter. This is not my intentions.

My son's UC came after he had salmonella poisoning...
I keep saying that his colon think the salmonella is still there...could there be remnants of it?
My wife is IgG deficient, and our son is immune deficient, as well.

I haven't read Hailey's Letter yet...I'm about to do so!
