This thread is super old, but comes up on Google searches with regard to UC and nicotine.
Studies show conclusive evidence that a subgroup of former smokers with refractory UC on mesalamine benefit from nicotine use. It has been shown conclusively that it is nicotine that assists with getting to or maintaining remission. I believe the study I am quoting is from 2015.
Nicotine replacement therapy, both vaping with a sub-ohm tank and 100% vg juice and habitrol patches (used interchangeably but not together) has helped.
I've also met others doing the same thing with success as I now blog about
it. It has helped me recover from a flare in May which required hospitalization. I get tested in 1 month for remission status.
I'm using a combination of mesalamine, nicotine, supplements (vitamin d with k2, turmeric, and magnesium), diet (SCD), exercise, and food sensitivity program (LEAP/MRT).
