That's a great article and wonderful doctors. I haven't seen much on liquid diets here, I wonder if that would work for us old folks.

Your son has IBD soy?

Liquid diet seems to make sense -- it gives your digestive tract a bit of a rest. How is your son doing?

hey guys, thanks for the comments and questions -

as far as i know, my son doesn't have any IBD's, (increasingly basturdly disease) but genetics are definitely not on his side !

he is fed into his jejunum, which is located somewhere down there (small intestine i think) - his poops are fairly normal, but vary depending on his level of health - they're mostly peanut butter, with a smidge of taffy or Hershey's chocolate milk once in a while - we have, after many years, found a workable way of feeding him -


mostly just wanted to share about his doc - i've mentioned him before, but with fights recent .......er......comments about docs, this seemed a good time to give an atta boy to most docs and medical type folks in general - they are not Gods and don't have all the answers - but guys like Dr Wahbeh are what make up, in my estimation, 90% of the medical community - they are kind, caring, intelligent people, and have us and our families best interests and health at the forefront of their being - yup, there are some clinkers out there, just like in the rest of the world - but I hate to think of a world without them -

Perhaps then the child will be able to eat a full regimen of safe solid foods without needing the “anti-inflammatory, non-steroid therapy administered intravenously every other month.”

First, that's awesome that you have such a good feeling/relationship with your son's GI. It makes things more tolerable (not sure if that's the right word, but I hope you know what I mean) when you're working with a doctor you really like.

And AMEN to the passage I quoted. I really do think that most doctors are good people who really want to help. A lot of people think docs are just in it for the money, but what they forget is that there are YEARS of (expensive) schooling, then more YEARS of residency, where you're paid like crap and work a ton of hours, and if you specialize (and therefore do a fellowship) more years where you're paid like crap and work a ton of hours. So really, it's a pretty dumb choice if it's all about money.

Anyway, my sister is a pediatric nephrologist, so it really burns me when people disparage doctors as a whole. She cries every.single.time she loses a patient. And it happens more than I care to think about, given that she works with subset of pretty ill kiddos.
