Can I stop Remicade infusions?I always suspected that once on a biologic then most likely you will remain on a biologic. So it might be a good idea to think twice before escalating to the big guns before trying out the milder meds. Not only do biologics have greater side effects but it is hard to get off them.
But I continue to receive different answers to my question, which is the same question as the OP, can you stop Remicade infusions? Case in point from a previous thread:

Actually once you escalate up to a biologic such as Remicade then you are most likely to remain on it permanently. Even if you eventually develop antibodies and must discontinue Remicade, the chances are that you need to be placed on another biologic.
Here is another poster who has no idea of what "habit-forming" actually means. You can stop Remicade cold turkey at any time and there will be zero adverse consequences. The body or brain does not 'crave' Remicade once it's stopped. The disease might or might not come back after stopping Remicade, but that is a completely separate issue. People do absolutely nothing at all and stay in remission for years. People go on every medication and diet under the sun and end up needing surgery.Nobody is talking 'habit-forming' except you. The OP's original question was if someone could become dependent on meds. My answer was that once you escalate to the 'big gun' biologics then it is very hard, almost impossible, to de-escalate back down to the milder maintenance meds to remain in remission.
Please correct me if I am mistaken.Post Edited (IamCurious) : 9/8/2017 7:48:43 AM (GMT-6)
