Canasa = Leakage problems?

Was diagnosed last week and started Canasa. It works, but I have been getting a seemingly random / constant clear terrible smelling discharge I've had to change multiple times

and I've never had uc gas before

I take salofalk suppositories which are the same thing. I don't notice a gross smell. I take mine at night and I do notice I'm very gassy when I wake up and it's weird Lou's suppository eruption gas..which must be expelled while on the toilet...cause it can be greasy/oily from the suppository. Maybe it's just your regular smelly UC gas like NSSG said...coupled with extra gas from the suppository?

Try retention enemas rather than the suppositories. They normally leak if you have any gas.

Are you taking fish oil as well?

What smell exactly....like a barn smell?

Ulcers don't break down and wouldn't cause a smell.

What's the extent of your UC, meaning where exactly is it in the rectum only? and how much.

ARe you on any oral mesalamine med?

Probiotics and fibre supplements could help.

Suppositories can be messy to use & ooze or leak out. If your rectum is the main area of inflammation, you could benefit from the liquid retention enemas or foam used at bedtime. In the UK, Europe, Australia & NZ mesalamine foam is available, but in North America we can only get steroid foam, which usually is very soothing. My personal feeling about this is that suppository manufacturers make a lot of money producing those greasy little buggers. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

So embarrassed and was wondering about this - leakage due to Canasa - have noticed it as well (in the morning before a BM, sorry to be gross - but if I have gas, thats kind of when it happens)

The good news - it seems to have ended the bleeding. It's been two weeks now and I haven't seen any blood and the cramps are finally seeming to subside.

The first inflamation was milder compared to this. I think I freaked out right away the first couple of times I saw blood back then - because my father had Colon Cancer at 34 (which was over 35 years ago... talk about blessed: he had a tumor, they found it, removed it - he never had chemo, radiation, etc. and it was never an issue again - he died this past October quite suddenly from a massive heart attack) So because of that family history my parents had been after me to get a colonoscopy when I turned 30 which I kept saying "yeah yeah yeah..." so when I saw that, yeah, scared the -- well you know -- out of me.

This flare I think my mistake was not increasing the lialda right away and/or getting the Canasa. My stomach had been in a knot since my dad's death and I just dismissed it as nerves. When I started seeing blood I just hoped it would go away and by three weeks later when I finally went to the doc, it was a full-blown flare.

This Monday I have an appointment with a new GI (since my last one left his practice and my regular Doc has just been prescribing me stuff through this flare)

Thanks Zengrrl - prayer has been essential, and just started going to a psychologist - definitely have been pushing off the grief while trying to take care of my mom, so in my head I know all of this is connected and what I need to do. It's just getting the motivation to start to deal with the grief.

What do you mean in terms of low-residue diet? Since I joined here a few months ago, and read some advice I've basically avoided all alcohol, caffeine (neither of which has been fun) and Advil (which was my goto for headaches) any other major things?
