Post pregnancy flare....Remicade ineffective?

Hi everyone,
I just had a baby, and was getting my remicade infusions up to 28 weeks. (I normally get them every 6 weeks.) However, after I had the baby, I had the infusion a few days later, but overall I ended up going without the infusion for almost 11 weeks. I had my infusion 3 weeks ago, and feel like it didn't do anything, Im going through a bad flare-up. Im so frustrated, has anyone else had this experience?

I can't say I've had that experience but I have seen a lot of people lose response to Remicade over time. I do think it's weird to have such limited response just because of being 3 weeks behind schedule... I think you should see about getting tested to see whether you've built up antibodies, if not, you may try increasing the dose to see if that helps. If you have, you could try simponi or humira and see how they work for you. Congratulations on the new baby :)

Congrats on your new baby. If your symptoms are worse than they usually are, perhaps ask for a stool test to rule out c diff infection since you were recently in the hospital.

Do you take any other meds besides remicade? I had a flare up 3 months pp (but I had only gone 8 weeks without an infusion because they had adjusted my scheduling slightly during my pregnancy so that it would be that way) and my flare resolved with an increase and colazal, the addition of rowasa enemas and my next infusion.

Congrats on the baby.

Being 3 weeks past your normal remicade dose could have triggered a flareup of your uc. I would follow standard uc flare up protocol: contact your gastroenterologist, likely get on some steroids (prednisone or rectal steroid).

Missing remicade doses makes it more likely you might buildup antibodies to remi, especially if you are not concurrently on an immunosuppressive medication (Imuran, 6mp, aza). Antibodies mean remi might might be less effective or no longer effective at all. Prometheus labs offers a blood test that measures your antibody level, ask your gastroenterologist.
