So tomorrow is Prep day...

I'm kind of anxious. The doctor insisted on me using Surprep (even though I tried pleading that the Miralax/Dlcolax combo last time was fine and the doctor at the time didnt say there was any problems with the quality of my prep) - so I'm worried about that since the one time I had to use magnesium citrate I puked that up and it was an awful experience. Trying not to read too many "reviews" - was looking for positives but seemed to find mixed feelings.

Of course I'm also worried about what the doc will find. The bleeding from UC has stopped about a month ago (still taking llialda 4 pills a day and canasa) but still have some cramps/pains. Just praying its just some inflamation from this flare and that's it.

Anyway - thanks for letting me whine :)

I used Suprep in the past. It wasn't the worst prep I had but to me it tasted like fruity cough syrup. Good luck with your scope and prep!

Sherry appreciate the feedback. Was a bit put off that the doctor/office staff didn't want to hear me out that the last time with Miralax/Dulcolax was a piece of cake for me after the first time was a real mess (this is a new doctor). They simply said "no it's not bad, you'll be fine".

Anyway... back to drinking Lemonade :)

I did suprep last time and agree with Sherry. I only needed half the prep, which was good because I don't think I could have gotten the last bit down. Good luck.

I've only every used picosalex which tasted great and was easy to get down but it didn't clean me out properly, Phospho-Fleet enema which tasted horrid but worked well, though I don't think any GI uses it for patients prepping anymore (too harsh on the insides) and the movieprep, wasn't bad tasting compared to the phospho-fleet but still tasted gross enough that with my second round of drinking it I just couldn't take the taste of it anymore, luckily it still cleared me out completely and that's what counts.

Just wanted to wish you the best with your C-scope tomorrow and I hope they find things well for you!!

I'm due for my 2 year scope this month. I shudder just thinking about what sort of liquid torture they are going to give me this time! I pretty much have tried them all except the Ducolax/Miralax combo.

Suprep really isn't that bad and like lemonhead, I only did about half to 3/4 of the prep and I was cleaned out enough.

pb4 - I'm still perplexed why my doc wouldnt let me do the miralax/dulcolax prep like last time. Best answer I can get is that every doctor has their thing

The reason this doctor might not want you to do Miralax and Dulcolax is because it's not approved by the FDA. That's why my mom's doctor wouldn't let her do it. She did it anyways though. I had Osmoprep pills the first time and Miralax and Dulcolax the second and third times with my current doctor.

If you really don't want to do Suprep, don't fill the prescription and just do Miralax and Dulcolax. Your doctor won't know any different. And it's not like he's going to quiz you on Suprep. If you're more comfortable with the other prep go for it.

I'm tempted Caitie - was trying to find the directions I used the last time but couldn't. The doc had given me a free kit of the suprep so I didn't have to fill the prescription. I think I'm going to try to use this stuff and hope I can tolerate it....

One dose down - I survived...

Wasn't the most pleasurable drink in the world (didnt think it was) but nowhere near as terrible as the Magnesium Citrate (but not as good as the Miralax/dulcolax prep) Used a straw, took about 15 min to get it all down - and got both glasses of water in.

Lol these drinks are not meant to be "pleasurable". If they were, they would have everyone lined up for a scope :)

Thanks everyone for your feedback and your kind words of support.

Just got back from the Colonoscopy - thank God, the doctor was pretty happy and said he simply saw some "mild inflamation" from "ulcerative proctitis" and that the rest of the colon looked very clean/clear. From his observation, it looks like the flare has gone away/back in remission (althought I do have hemmoroids now)

I'm obviously very happy that there's nothing serious. Just confused since I've continued to have stomach cramps/pains . Fortunately I think the Canasa/Llialda combo must've cleared up the ulcers since I haven't seen blood since the beginning of March.

If nothing else, it at least is a relief of the mind and when the pains do come, for the most part I can just calm myself down knowing it's nothing serious.

As for the Suprep - Not a fan. Second dose I started at 4:30 am - a full hour of sipping and I was only able to get 10 oz of the 16 oz down. Thought I was going to hurl. The first dose did go down a bit easier but I was going to the bathroom till 1:30 am (started at 5:30) - definitely wasnt that bad with the Miralax/Dulcolax prep. Also this doc made me give myself a fleet enema before going to the center and then (after waiting 2 hours to go in for the colonoscopy... ) the nurse gave me another where she checked to see if it was clear. Never had that experience before. And MAN did that burn... the bum is definitely not feeling great

Anyway - like I said, thanks again for your posts of support and well wishes and concern. I hope and pray all of you are fortunate to get similar positive results/news

wow! I don't think I would want to do another scope with that dr -- the prep AND 2 enemas seem like overkill to me.

Good to hear you got a good report though!!! It must be a great relief to know things have cleared up!

Hey that's great that you got a good report!! Hopefully you'll start to feel like you're in as good a shape that you're colonoscopy reveals. I felt the same way, still not quite right although my c-scope came back as all clear, then it was quickly confirmed that it was my highly suspected IBS DX (on top of having crohn's colitis) that my GI gave me around 13 years ago was the culprit...working on that IBS issue now.

yeah CCinPA - this was a new doctor - my first visit I waited hour 45 minutes for a five minute meeting where he looked over my report from the last colonoscopy 2 years ago and said we should do another one (didn't even examine me). Sitting in that waiting room from 9:30 - 11:15 I really was getting frustrated, and the prep was rough (the first colonoscopy with the Magnesium Citrate that did make me vomit and the doctor who made me wait till almost 4:30 for the colonoscopy meaning I was basically fasting and prepping 2 days by the time I got in - that was THE WORST of the tests Ive had) so this wasn't THAT bad, but I really, really missed my old GI today. The prep I had with him was really a piece of cake, the test done at a hospital was top notch - from the minute I walked in, I was "in process" and in and out in about 2 and a half hours.

But I really don't want to be too whinny today. Knowing how many people here on these boards suffer far worse than what I'm dealing with - its good to keep in perspective and be thankful. But its amazing to see the differences from doctor to doctor. Overall this guy isn't the best, but he wasn't the worst either.

2 hours?!?! That's horrible when you haven't eaten anything for a couple days! I've never heard of doing fleet enemas for colonoscopies, let alone 2. I love my colonoscopy place. It's one of those places that just does scopes. Like 5 doctors do their scopes there. Not appointments, just colonoscopies. Walking in the waiting room you would think it takes forever because there's so many people (most of them drivers for the patients), but you're in and out in less than an hour.
