Just had an hemmrhoidectomy. Not fun. After 14 years of those buggers hanging around, I finally bit the bullet and had the surgery. Anyone contemplating it, don't. After 3 weeks, I am finally back to work, but wish I wasn't. The pain was ridiculous for a good 2 weeks. They sent me home with 80 percocet and 40 valium, still not enough. I have been told I will be happy with the results in another month or 2, but right now, ugh.
I know a lot of us have issues with Hemmies, but please take care of your bum!!!

I'm sorry that you are having a hard time. I don't even want to have hem surgery because I have heard many stories like yours. I mean if they get to the point of bursting or are massive then I might consider it.

I've heard hemmie surgery is painful...I wonder if it differs as to how big and how many are removed?
I'm still contemplating having an anal tag removed.
Hope each day has you feeling better....Is there any rectal med you can use such as rectal rockets that can be compounded to ease the pain?

What procedure did they use lemonhead? Did they band them? I had my perianal crohn's skin tags mistaken for hemmies just as I was in the process of getting sick with crohn's so with all the docs telling me they were hemmies I went in on a emergency basis because they were killing me and they banded them while they were in a flare so as a result they stayed in a flared state (to this day, 24 years later) and yes, the pain is unbelievable from that procedure.
Hope you recover quickly!!

No banding. I heard that would be a walk in the park compared to what they did to me. So, I had internal and external ones removed. They made 3 incisions around my anus like a Y, removed what they wanted and sewed me up. Then went inside and cut out those as well. I can't really feel the internal ones at all. Occasionally, I have pain in my tailbone, but it isn't too bad. The external ones are the ones that hurt like the dickens. They did give me something that I had to send to ST. Louis for compounding, called R5. Has a bunch of stuff in it, 2 or which are numbing. I think it has an antibacterial too. That helps, but not enough!! The older I get, the harder it is to recover. Probably doesn't help that I am on Humira either.

Oh that sucks lemonhead!! Back in 1991 when they banded mine, they told me they used to cut hemmies off/out but found that option was no longer used since being such a vulnerable area for getting infections and difficulty healing, given the area it's being done on, that banding is really the only way they remove hemmies anymore and that was over 2 decades ago. They also instructed me to take stool softeners (idiots they were cuz I was having full blown D pretty much right after my un-necessary surgery)
Wishing you a very speedy recovery and I hope you never have to deal with them again.

I have a friend who had surgery and it took her 6 weeks to feel human and 6 months to fully recover. My own dr says he would only offer surgery if a patient with IBD if they bleedung all the time.
Hope you feel better soon!

I've had a few external large ones...about
the size of a grape sometimes. My GI had me see a general surgeon and in his office he would numb the hemmi, then make two small cuts and squeeze out the clot. There would be an empty "shell" of skin but eventually my body absorbed it and you couldn't see it at all. I wouldn't think twice about
that procedure again for external hemmis. It's instant relief and a bit of soreness that lasts a couple days but nothing bad at all.

Lemon I hope you have a quick recovery from the pain.
My dad did it about
40 years ago, he did a lot of soaking in a hot bath.
He was not a happy camper.
Wishing you well.

My dad had some external hemmies, avoided surgery for as long as he could, until he was wearing maxipads to stop the bleeding/seaping from touching his clothes. They gave him bands, he passed out during the procedure; hurt like hell he said, took him a number of weeks to recover. He had several more about
7 years later but he had them treated before they became that problematic. This time he opted for anesthesia, no bands, and had them cut off, easier and quicker recovery and a lot less pain on the second go around. Maybe it was less trouble the second time as he didn't put it off for so long?

Wow, ipoop, when I had my banding done they put me completely asleep in the hospital, I couldn't imagine having anything done on the butthole while awake, that's just unnecessary torture IMO and very barbaric.

It's sort of funny that hems were mentioned today. I started a new probiotic which btw I guess didn't agree with me. So I've been having D more then usual and omg, I thought my tush was gonna fall out because of my hems! I have both internal and external but my internals were extremely aggravated today. But I'm still not contemplating surgery :)

Ouch! Lemonhead, I'm sorry that you have major misery. For sure returning to work will be hard if you have to sit on the sore parts. Hemmies can just be The Pits! During a C-scope in 2006, I could see the monitor some of the time & wondered what on earth are those tangles of purple men doing in there? (LOL) Afterward gastro commented that I had internal hemmies, but they weren't hurting so I forgot about
them. Cut to a throne trip 2 weeks ago when I suddenly felt like a tennis ball needed to come out but couldn't! Ugh! Keep yourself well-hydrated & rest as much as you can. Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it. / Old Hat (34 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

My GI said she doesn't band external ones and those are the ones along with a skin tag that give me the most grief. I have read on here in the past about
the horrific pain and recovery time for having surgery. I don't have time for that. LOL

I heard about
the pain of surgery for it years ago before UC and decided never to go there. But I hope Lemonhead, that you feel better soon and just think, it's a done deal! You are brave!

My dad's glad he got the surgery, even though it hurt and the recovery sucked. He said it was a pain to keep pushing the external hemorrhoid back inside.

I was given no other option but surgery. Today is 4 weeks and I do feel a bit better. Still have a lot of swelling (I am told that is normal because there is no where for it to go). So, I guess I shouldn't complain too much. It is definitely not something I ever want to do again. They made me take mineral oil, fiber supplements and milk of magnesia. I stopped all that, constipation was never the reason for my hemmies!! All that was making me go ALL THE TIME!! I will let you all know if I think it was worth it or not after I am all healed up. Thanks for the well wishes, and keep your tushies happy!!
