Getting Med refills

Does anyone else find this to be the most irritating thing ever lol? Calling the medical assistant, always getting the machine, waiting, sometimes having to bug them to get the refill. Stuff like this makes me insane when the thought of I didn't get it refilled means I will immediately get really sick. I wish they understood having UC. Maybe they'd respond faster

My gastroenterologist used to put three month refills on my lifetime, maintenance medications. Have to wait and jump through hoops when I ran out of refills (call, voicemail, wait, go back to pharmacy). I asked them to bump it to a higher number of months, which has helped...ask your doctor to bump up the number of months as high as possible.

Riteaid would do it for me (auto request refill authorization from my gastroenterologist office when it ran out, without me doing it; huge timesaver). I just have to remember to call a few days before needing it; hit or miss with forgetful old me...lol.

I believe mail order pharmacies do the same as riteaid does. More convenient as well...

I usually get scripts written out for 6-12 months so I don't have to bother them so often

I went through this same thing, it was frustrating and scary to think my meds might not be filled on time. my prescription ran out in january (it was a 12 month script for 90 days at a time) and I didn't have my next appointment until february. I was panicking and kept getting voicemail and finally got to his assistant. she misheard my voicemail, sent it to the wrong place (to a cvs, but i have to do mail order). it was a fiasco. i don't mind mail order service but it is not simple, they need to make it so they can transfer easier from a pharmacy to there service.

Luckily in feb my medication was reduced so i have a supply that by year end ill have a little extra so just incase this happens next year i have a little extra medicine thankfully. but it is stressful. i wish they had an auto renew option too, my mail order service does by my meds its not available, probably because they cost so darn much

I hate it when I have to jump through hoops for refills because the GI is out of office and nurse can't authorize without his signature for over a week. Ridiculous.

Then there is the "vacation" problem, my vacation not his, when I'll be out of town when it's time for refill. More hoops to jump through. This Rx dispensing system is archaic and perpetuated by every link in the chain wanting their own piece of profit and control.

My yearly appointment is next week and I will getting written scripts for all meds since I order some from Canada at times but use local pharmacies for most.

I don't have much of a problem usually. I can email my doctor through the patient portal they have for their practice and within a few hours they call in what I need. The only time I had a problem was when I wanted something for a hemmie flare up. They made a big deal about that until I said I have had them for 20 years and I am used to having a flare up once in awhile.

If people are switching GIs then questioning how the new GI's office handles refills is a good question to ask when considering the new GI.

I have an app on my phone and the GI practice also has a website where I can ask for refills, it attaches to my medical records(so they don't have to look up my account) and I usually have the refill script within 2 hours. My GI has a NP who writes the refills, so I normally don't have to wait on the GI.

My pharmacy accepts electronic scripts so there is no paperwork or phone calls. I get a text message when it is ready for pick up.
