Hello everyone, I am very new to the forum and talking about my UC. I was diagnosed in 2013 and had a flare that my doctor put me on asacol and prednisone. I was on a taper but within 5 days I was symptom free. I am now on flare number 2 after almost a year with no symptoms and almost done with my prednisone taper and no change noted? I consider myself lucky from what I read from other people but the only symptom I have ever had is blood in the stool. No pain or fever or any symptom. I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing just the one symptom or if there is something else I should talk to my doctor about?

From my experience, each flare is unique. Some are "easy" and others bring their friends to the party.

Hey Hendrick, welcome to the forum.

Were you taking your asacol after your first flare was resolved?

If your only symptom is bloody stool, is it true that your inflammation is limited to the rectum? A good medication for you would be a mesalamine suppository or retention enema. This will treat the inflammation most directly.

@kazbern yes I have been on Asacol 800MG 2 pill 3x daily. For the entirety of my Diagnosis. I did use the Enema because the doctor said it was worth a try. From the last scope the inflammation is limited to rectum area. When I used the Enema before it was right when I was finishing the Pred. Taper and things did not seem to flare back up. I still have some from before. Best to consult doctor before using again I would assume?

No, you can go ahead and use the enemas you have. Most of us go on and off the enemas as needed, once we've achieved a good remission. Rectal inflammation is really stubborn. Call your doc and get a refill of your scrip and start using enemas again tonight.

I'm glad you've stayed on your asacol. Don't stop.

Awesome thank you for the advice! I will definetely do that! What have you heard in regards to Fish Oil or Flax Seed any personal results if tried? Ive heard that they can really help or sometimes make things worse?

I've been taking flax seed oil for years. I can't say one way or the other whether it makes a big difference but it's easy enough to take.
