Hi everyone, i have excessive gas no matter what i eat. It makes me feel full all the time so i cant't eat big meals. I pass a lot of gas during night. I have to wake up 4-5 times to go and sometimes only water/mucuos and gas comes out with drops of blood ofcourse. I am on Humira, Uceris and VSL#3 dS 1 packet per day. I started humira in January 2015 and it worked well for 3 months but now i am experiencing flare up. Blood with stool everytime I go. Sometimes i have loose stools and sometimes semi-formed but not consistent. Any suggestion to reduce this gas?

Is the blood and mucus normal? I would be trying to control that first before the gas...if you're inflammed it'll defiantly effect the digestive tract and will produce more gas as a consequence.

You are preaching to the choir right here, but I'm going to attempt the... Low fodmap diet. And my gastrointestinal doctor tells me to take a beano pill before each meal. It honestly takes away half of the gas but not all. But maybe it'll work even better for you since I have stomach ulcers too (which produces gas sometimes.)

Well that's not good!! YoungmanUC, you need to let your GI know what's going on, I don't think that should be happening while on Humira so you need to let them know asap.

VSL#3 can cause gas. Passing gas can be a sign of healing sometimes.

Call your gastroenterologist about your systems, since you did initially respond to humira, perhaps the frequency of the humira shots can be increased.

I called my GI today, he said my body might have produced antibidies against humira and thats why i am flaring. He told to have this special blood test done which detects how much Humira is there in my blood and if there are any antibodies present. He also prescribed me Hydrocortisone suppositories one at bed time because of increased frequency.

Glad you called him! I assumed the blood work my GI sends me for since I started on Humira was to monitor my blood in case I developed antibodies to Humira (they say it's more rare because Humira is made with a human protein unlike Remicade which is made with a mouse protein)...I hope your GI can help you get things under control.

Yea he also increased my dose of humira to once a week instead of 2 weeks.
