Has anyone tried the ayurvedic medicine kutaja (Holarrhena Antidysenterica)? it looks interesting on paper:

It's an old medicine to treat dysentery:
"Dysentery is an inflammation of the intestine causing diarrhea with blood.It is caused by a number of types of infection such as bacteria, viruses, parasitic worms, or protozoa. It is a type of gastroenteritis. The mechanism is an inflammatory disorder of the intestine, especially of the colon."

kutajaristam which is made mostly of kutaj with few other herbs is one of the main things prescribed by ayurveda doctors for colitis.

Only banyan botanicals has pure kutaj in US.

if you need a mixture then you may want to try diarcare of himalaya which has kutaj, bael and musta. It did help sometime my daughter. This is available in most organic stores in US. Otherwise you will have to get it from India.

Kamakya, thanks so much, it's a very helpful info! I've just checked banyan botanicals and they have lots of interesting things. As i'm always "cautiously optimistic" about my remission, i'm planning to take kutaj if things go wrong. One Indian guy i talked with told me he had been in a pre-surgery state and it was only kutaj that brought him to a complete remission. I hope ft will start working for your daughter, i wish her all possible luck :)

Instead of just pure kutaj, you can consider Diarcare (Himalaya product). It is available in all organic stores in US. Diarcare has kutaj,bael,musta which care considered must for colitis as per ayurveda


Otherwise, you can get from India.

kamakya: Bloom93 referred me to you. My son (8 year old) is recently diagnosed with Crohn's. We are from Southern part of India and vegetarians.
