Has anyone experienced how long it takes entyvio to kick in?
Entyvio is very, very slow working compared to the other biologics (remicade, humira, or simponi). I'd say you should have a reaction by 12 weeks or so, if you're going to have one.
Ditto on get cdiff under control first. Cdiff and uc symptoms are the same.
It's a personal decision on whether or not to get surgery, some want to try every conceivable traditional medication and alternative medication before considering surgery, some are afraid of surgery. A jpouch is multiple surgeries, each with a recovery period. 95 percent are happy with their j-pouch, many wish they'd had it sooner. Complications are possible (e.g., pouchitis), but easier to treat and less troublesome than uc ever was.
Do your homework on j-pouch surgery, visit
www.j-pouch.org, visit the ostomies forum here on healingwell, read the blogs of those who've undergone that surgery, e.g.,
ronnielee-fightingforit.blogspot.com/2012/08/coming-to-terms.html. Get a sugery consultation and ask the surgeon about
the process, and any questions you might have (not a commitment, but rather just a q &a session). Are you there yet (need surgery), no, get cdiff under control and give entvyio more time. Knowledge is power, learn everything you can and it is possible surgery might be necessary for you some day.
