Phosphatidylcholine – Phase III – A Long Road to Travel

Hi all,   I thought I’d post this here as I see there have been threads on this matter on HW before.   I wondered whether anybody was aware of this or had any further information they wanted to share.   LT-02 from Lipid Therapeutics ( Germany ) is now to begin Phase III trials in Europe (alas UK not included) and this trial will last for 2.5 years.   Given how well this treatment has performed in Phase II this could be a very big thing indeed for UC sufferers as this treats the cause (or at least, a cause) of UC rather than mucking around with unpleasant or dangerous drugs to address the symptoms.   If this is successful, and I’d be surprised if it weren’t, then perhaps UC won’t be such a life changing diagnosis!   One problem though…. Time.   Looks like Phosphatidylcholine has been investigated in UC for 10 years now, and the Phase III trials look like taking a very long time indeed.   2.5 years for European induction study, then another in the USA ; perhaps another 2.5 years, followed by a maintenance study which will probably be longer still.   I would estimate that it could take another decade to reach the market, and then perhaps longer to be taken up by individual national health systems.   This is immensely frustrating!!   Do all drugs take 20 odd years to make it to the market?   It’s not as if LT-02 is toxic or dangerous as it’s just Lecithin in enteric coating.   I hope I’m wrong about the timescales.   Anybody know anything about this?   https://www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu/ctr-search/trial/2012-003702-27/AT   http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.1517/13543784.2010.535514  

PhosphatidylCholine (PC) has been known to help with IBD, UC and Crohn's, for years now. It is especially effective for controlling strictures in Cronnies.

I began supplementing with it when I was first diagnosed. It didn't affect my UC except perhaps to make it worse, but I really noticed a difference with improved blood lipids, i.e. my cholesterol numbers especially LDL went down. That is another known benefit of PC.

I think PC wasn't quite as effective for my UC as it should be because it is derived from soybeans which are mostly GMO and saturated with Roundup. Glyphosate in Roundup is associated with digestive disorders. I could not find phosphatidylcholine from non-GMO soybeans but did find lecithin. Think of lecithin as diluted phosphatidylcholine but make sure it is from non-GMO soybeans or sunflowers.

I take lecithin because it might help with UC and I also know for sure that it helps with my cholesterol. But if I were prone to strictures then I would take a lot more. Think of it as food (from soybeans and sunflowers) and not as a drug.

Ive researched the Patricia Kane protocol and Garth Nicholson's phospholipid product but PC was not helpful to me, nor was phosphytidal serine at the stage I was at when I tried it. Every time I tried to take a combo product my body started to increase fibrin, I felt horrible and my lyme disease increased in symptoms.

Hi-- anyone tried to make an enema with the PC? Other ideas? It does look promising. thanks, Deborah
