Humira more than biweekly?

Do you take anything else in addition to the Humira?

How much pred are you on right now? Are you taking a total of 6 Asacol pills per day? How often do you take the Rowasa?

I was offered 2-pens weekly but ultimately chose to go on to Simponi. We were playing with the dosages and frequency but Humira only really worked for me for a few days before the symptoms came back and it continued to become less effective for me as time went on.

Have you tried 6-mp/imuran or mexitrexate with a biological? I had all ready decided that I wanted surgery by then so I was just waiting for my surgeon to be able to schedule me (3 months).

I'm not on anything but Humira, I take it weekly, I found that biweekly wasn't any good for me because less than part way through waiting to do the next shot my symptoms felt awful so I asked my GI to up my Humira to weekly the same day he was scoping me to see if it had done anything for me yet, so just before they put me to sleep for the scope he agreed to up it for me....turned out that the scope revealed that I was in remission with my crohn's colitis (CD affecting the colon) and proctitis (CD affected my rectum on and off over many years as well) but he stuck to me taking weekly shots (it's my IBS that's continuing to cause my grieft at this point so we are working on that as well with therapy and dietitian and in about 4 months biofeedback therapy and probably suppositories to aid with having larger volumes stools and not all the frequency to "go") about a month after upped my Humira to weekly I started feeling a bit better compared to just being on biweekly.

Remicade has a much better track record for treating UC than Humira does. If you don't start to see results then you should discuss trying Remicade.

Remicade worked great for me for about 5 years and then it stopped working, I tried Humira after that but it didn't do too much to help my symptoms.

5 months on prednisone, wow. I did a year straight of prednisone during my worst flare, trying lots of medications and dosages until I finally got it right. Yeah, the side effects of prednisone are horrendous... Be careful as you are likely in the longterm-usage category now, and permanent side effects can occur (glaucoma, osteoporosis, type ii diabetes, etc.). You need a prednisone exit plan... Maybe weekly humira is it? Or entvyio?

"if the medication is working"??? How long have you been on Humira? Haven't they scoped you since you started to see if it is working??

Often, uc patients are concurrently on an immunosuppressive medication (such as 6mp, Imuran or aza) in additional to a biologic medication (such as humira, remicade, or simponi). You might need that combination to exit your flare...

I'm on 6mp and remicade... and that's how I beat my yearlong flare and dance with prednisone

Prednisone is an effective rescue medication and once you discontinue pred, your standard uc medications must be strong enough to prevent you from slipping back into a flare. If your uc maintenance medications are not strong enough then you are prednisone-dependant (as I was, and you currently are). It's possible that the extra shot of humira might be enough. It's also possible it is not (which is why some of us are skeptical). Atleast humira is quick working, you have had some response to it, so you should know within a few weeks, if it doesn't have a plan B (like adding imuran/6mp) or entvyio.

Corticosteroids (such as prednisone) are very quick working and effective but are very dangerous, which is why I refer to them as rescue medications. It's why they are used for as short of a term as possible. Your body creates the equivalent of 7-12mgs a day of a chemical corticosteroids mimic (it's for handling minor aches, pains).

I think it's strange your GI hasn't scoped you after 6 months of being on Humira, being on prednisone should have no bearing on that either...very weird. How else will you GI know if the Humira is clearing up any of the inflammation unless he takes a peek inside...there could be other things going on for all he knows, maybe your inflammation is cleared up but you maybe developed lactose intolerance or something...IDK it's just strange to me that you haven't been scoped yet.

Yes, I understand those things are a factor for many especially in the US region...it's really too bad it's like that for so many. I'm thankful it's not in Canada. Best of luck to you, I sure hope you find relief soon!
