My aunt is an operating room nurse. My uncle said you'd think being married to a nurse would be absolutely wonderful when you're sick, but I wake up sick and my wife turns to me and says: you're not dead get your butt up and go to work. I think it's a necessity to be desensitized if you work as a doctor, nurse, emt, and treat those who are very ill and badly injured all day. As getting emotional about
each and every bad case would be to much to handle. Certainly comes across as cold and uncaring though...
I had a nurse at my gastroenterologist office say to me once: they should name the next new wing of the building after me (as I was frequently there over a series of months, apt after apointment trying to recover from a really bad flare, and knew everyone on a first name basis). Me: gee thanks, tell my doctor to fix me and I won't be here as often (me thinking what my insurance pays for it all and whether it added up to it).
