Going crazy from this!!!!

Hi! Have not posted in a while but here it goes....since July of last year I started having tenesmus that NEVER went away. Back and forth go GI. December had sigmoid done had very inflamed rectum and small spots of inflammation from there and up to about 33 inches. Was put on 6mp for first time in December and have been on 50mg since. I also take 4tabs of Lialda with it. The blood that was present at the time of the sigmoid went away but this feeling of alwaysss needing the bathroom NEVER went away. Some days are better then others but it's alwaysss there. Complained to dr so he did another sig in April thinking he'd need to increase 6mp but there was no inflammation what so ever. Now the feeling is getting stronger and I don't know what to do. No blood. When I actually have a BM it's normal and formed. Canasa never worked for me so I feel stuck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Canasa never worked much for me until I got nearly to remission. Mesalamine enemas however really helped my tenesmus. Have you tried them for at least 2 weeks using them every night?

Hmmm did they take biopsies during the most recent sigmoidoscopy? Uc rectal inflammation would necessitate meslamine enemas or suppositories. Any chance it's spasms not tenesmus? If so a prescription antispasmatic medications may be wonderful...

Do u think its a smart idea to up the 6mp?

Right so that's actually what it is. Constant straining. But sometimes it's real and I really do need to go. That's the problem. The feeling never subsides though.

VSL#3 was helpful getting me to remission but not much connection to tenesmus from memory. But it's all connected so if it causes no problems there's no reason not to use it.

Consider using enemas at night and Canasa daytime. Just hit that area with everything. I always waited tip the morning BM's were over like noon-ish or risked having the supp. go down the drain.

edit to add: don't use any caffeine or chocolate which can stimulate.

Sorry to hear this but I think enema to calm the area down. It's sounds like you are doing well otherwise. I feel much better too and it almost time to get next blood draw. Hope I can continue this med. it's almost 3 months.

Even with the loss of my mom last week and some horrible stress I manage.

For kicks and grins it could just be sphincter. Get some tucks medicated pad and leave them on it for a bit just to see.

How about you get your doc to prescribe a two week course of pred foam enemas? See if that puts an end to the symptoms.
