I have UC for 9 years now. When I am in a bad flare up , I will only have mucus and blood come out with some diarrhea. it feels like I am constipated though, even though I am frequently using the bathroom. does anyone else experience this? I have to be constipated because the amount of BM does not equal my intake of food. Does anyone else have this? What do you do?

It sounds like your inflammation is low/rectal. That's what normally happens with inflammation in that area. Are you on suppositories of any type?

I have the same thing and it blows. You feel so crazy because you are in the bathroom all the time, but it's just not productive - and it is really uncomfortable. I agree that rectals usually help - alternating mesalamine and hydrocortisone have helped me. If the inflammation is a little higher, you can try retention enemas. Good luck - hope you feel better.

Thank you guys. I'm not on suppositories. When my GI put me on oral meds, he took away suppositories.

Request more rectal meds. That doesn't even make sense why he would do that.

Yes I had that too I felt like I had to poop tons and than just blood and mucous came out
Ugh
It's possible that it's constipation higher up and "clear" lower down
If you are having a lot of BMs they don't like to give rectal meds because they will get lost if you just poop it out and they don't know how much you retained if you did retain any
