Colonoscopy shows no activity, just scarring

I had a colonoscopy done yesterday and the pictures from it doesn't even look like the colon I'm used to seeing, with tons of inflammation. It was a real surprise for me.

I say it was a real surprise, because if I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it. I still have urgency and can have lots of D some times.

The only thing that really helps in the past few months is staying on the SCD Diet. When I was on that, I could go out without taking Imodium and use the bathroom once or twice a day and it was controllable. I was also doing vitamin e enemas during that time too.

My doctor told me that because of the scarring there isn't anything I can do about the urgency, but I think that's bs, because months prior, modifying my diet did exactly that. I told him about it and he looked surprised. I asked him if I could have developed IBS and he said it's possible.

Anyway, I'm guessing my colon has little flora left from the years of inflammation. I wish they would hurry up and make FMT a thing that is widely accepted.

Anyone have any luck with doing anything different to make yourself seem normal after your colon looks normal that isn't diet modification?

I will say that, diet modification never did anything great for me while I had active levels of UC, and past colonoscopies. Only when the inflammation is under control is when sticking to the SCD seems to be the only way to feel normal again.

Probably the closest thing you can get to an FMT, unless you do it yourself (a little dangerous), is to take probiotics of many different strains. I think most of us suffer from hard to reverse structural damage of the colon from scarring, hardening, etc. Some of it may never heal and we may never return to completely normal. IBS is a possibility but I hate it when they pull that diagnosis out of their asses as a scapegoat diagnosis just because they really don't know. I personally believe that in many cases, UC can have some involvement going on in the small intestine of some kind, even if it is not inflammation. Of course in CD that is a real possibility. If you are able to, it might be beneficial to get a stool analysis done by Ubiome or American Gut. It might give you a clue as to what path to take. I did this a couple of years ago and used the results to make myself much better.

@imagardener2 - I did do nightly Vitamin E enemas and that seemed to help a ton too. Haven't done those in a while, might start it nightly again and taper it down to every few nights. I take tumeric with pepper already, along with other supplements.

@garylouisville - I've been reading your threads about grape seed extract. Glad it's working out for you and I might try it soon.

@pb4 - I'm in your boat. I had inflammation for a good 16 years almost. Finally got on Obama care and was able to see a doctor again and tried the usual prednisone for 5-6 months (too long actually, the nurse somehow forgot to tell me to start tapering off it) and I developed temporary diabetes that lasted 3 months, that was hell. But then I was put on Remicade and I think that has been helping. But, like I said.. Diet modification seems to be the main thing that helps me feel normal and not needing to worry about loading up on immodium or trying to remember if I already used the bathroom or not.

Be great if I can go back to eating whatever, but those days might be over.

I've read that you can heal the rectal scarring using vitamin E and DMSO, but don't take my word for it because I have zero experience. Also, be very careful with DMSO. It's non-toxic but anything mixed with it will absorb transdermally right into your blood.

I do have experience with castor oil for scars in general. I've healed 10 year old scars using castor oil packs, but it was all external. I'm wondering if castor oil could somehow be inserted rectally. Normally if you take castor oil orally it will purge your bowels (classic remedy for constipation), but maybe doing it as an enema would have a different effect.
