Can I use The R word???

After 3 yrs of blood, I haven't had any since first of June. Usually have more Sun & Mon, after effects of 3rd Ene on Fri wears off. I had 10 days of Uceris, took last one May 22nd, still had blood May 30th....Dr said it should have worked right away. I had my first shot in eye for wet Macular degeneration Apr 24, my second Jun 2, no blood since then....
The drug used for eye shots is Avastin off label, to stop blood vessels in eye leaking. Same Drug approved for use in larger dosage for Colon Cancer, so I'm wondering, is it possible this drug has stopped my UC bleeding??? idea idea

Was bleeding your last symptom and you feel it's resolved now? If so, then you might very well be able to use the R word...lets hope eh!!

Thanks for ur response pb4. Still have some urgency, but bleeding was most troubling to me, even with 3 Mesalamine Ene a wk & 9 Colazal day. Would like to cut back on Ene but afraid to. I won't have another Avastin shot for couple mos so will see what happens with that.....
Yes, Having a month of no bleeding has given me Hope!!

Well that's awesome Julie!! Hoping you are on the road to "the R word" and that you'll be there for a very long time. I hate the urgency, I almost don't even care what comes out of there if it wasn't urgent and only once a day lol unfortunately I don't think it works that way I think our stools probably have to look pretty normal in order for that to happen, and oddly mine do, formed and all but even though my crohn's colitis is in remission, I'm still dealing with IBS...always some crap pile to deal with hahaha.

Bleeding isn't a last symptom...remember that healing happens in increments.

How many times a day are you having bms?

I'd suggest you up the mesalamine enemas to nightly for at least a week or two and see how you do regarding urgency.

I wouldn't say R just yet, but you are doing really, really, really much better.

Scary to hear that "shots" are used for wet Macular Degeneration. Is that actually into the eye?

Pb4, I hate the urgency too, esp in public, so far no Accident in public, Scarry tho!! Have had several at home, last one was in Mar. I haven't had IBS since Sept!!! which I had in my notes "IBS from Hell"😖. I std Ultimate Flora Probiotic in Oct, crediting it for no IBS, bt who knows, just Grateful to have gone this long without it!!

Quincy, my Bm can go from 0-3....I don't count little sludge morn after Ene as BM. I may even skip day or 2 then have clean out day! I was mostly hoping Ene would stop bleeding, didn't think abt it controlling urgency..... May try the Ene for wk as u suggested, I did every other day last summer bt started having hives from Hell, so afraid of too much in my system. Take a Zyrtec with ea Ene & seems to control hives mostly, may have one or 2 pop out. Also couple mos ago re-read directions for Ene & have made a point of staying on left side 30 min after, may have helped with bleeding....

They say shots are in eye cavity, sounds little better!! Not as bad as sounds, they use lotta numbing drops. Wasn't dilated with first one, have been with last 2, after effects of those worse nuisance, watering, burning, ruins the day, bt better next day, tho last one was bad bloodshot few days after. I've had the Dry AMD for 5 yrs, right eye just turned wet in April, he does a shot, once a mo/3mos, initially, then decided I could prob go 2mos w/o one, since we are going outta state for summer. Will prob see Retina spec while there to monitor it.

Dikid, thanks, Sorry for ur UC at ur young age!! At least I enjoyed relatively Good health til my 60's, just last 3 yrs all hell broke loose! But still could be worse! I still have 20/40 vision, only wear readers for now. I've looked for a forum on MD bt have only found articles on it. This forum is Great, I've had better info here than my GI for most part! 😜

Glad you're improving. Although remission isn't generally used when a patient is on steroids. You've got to be steroid free.

ipoop, I did have Uceris 10 days in May, is that the steroids ur referring to? I didn't see any improvement until 2 wks after I took the last one on May 22nd. My GI said I should have seen results right away with it. I think it would be a little Hasty for me to say I'm in Remission after only a mo of no blood anyway, just Hopeful/Wishful thinking!😊

Julie, UC is rare in our age group. Are you a former smoker? I'm 64.

zengrrl, Yes I smoked @15 yrs, quit in 86. How long have you been on Ene nightly?

It's actually not that rare, according to stats I've read (decades ago even) 60's is about as common as early 20's, I think it's all the other age groups that get it used to be more rare ages to get IBD...my mom got her UC in her mid 60's AFTER I already got sick with my crohn's colitis in my early 20's.
